Hogwarts Legacytook the wizarding world by storm last year, letting players live out their dreams of studying at Hogwarts in stunning fidelity. GivenHogwarts Legacy’sexplosive success, the only surprise is how long it took Warner Brothers to officially announce plans to start working on a sequel.WithHogwarts Legacy 2being set in the same magical world, there’s even more potential for new spells players can learn.
WhileHogwarts Legacyhad no short list of spells, incantations, and curses to choose from, with how many there are in theHarry Potter Universe, there’s always going to be a few that get left behind. While some of the most iconicHarry Potter spells would be hard to translate into moment-to-moment gameplay, like transforming into other students or making a love potion for a helpless classmate, they could still be included in the story sections.

10The Nox Incantation In Hogwarts Legacy 2
The Simplest of Spells For More Immersion & Utility
While Nox isn’t the most game-changing spell to add inHogwarts Legacy 2, its one that makes the most sense as an easy inclusion. Being the extinguishing term for the commonly used Lumos, it would addeven more immersionto the wizarding world for players. Even without it being an active spell of its own,Nox could easily be made into a simple incantation spoken by the player when deactivatingLumos.
Players could sneak around enemy Wizards by disabling their lights.
The Nox spell could also be added with its own separate utility option, giving the player a way to disable other Wizards' light sources. If the developers wanted to add more involved stealth sections, Nox would be a sure fire way to include them, adding even more variety and depth to exploration. Players would be able to sneak around enemy Wizards by disabling their candles or wand light, allowing the player to get around easily without being seen.
9Snape’s Sectumsempra Would Add Power
A Restricted Curse For Taking Down Enemies
Being one of the most violent outside thethree unforgivable curses, Sectumsempra would be a satisfying alternative to cast on unsuspecting enemies.Sectumsempra inflicts the target with many lacerations, dealing incredible damagewhile incapacitating most foes instantly. While it’s one of the more creative options for combat spells, it does have one problem keeping it fromHogwarts Legacy 2.
Severus Snape invented Sectumsempra in roughly the 1960s, with the events of Legacy taking place in the year 1890s.

Being invited by Snape during his time at Hogwarts in the late 90s, the spell has a slight timeline problem preventing its inclusion directly. WithHogwarts Legacy’sstory taking place over a century before the events of the movies, there’s not much hope for this exact curse being added. While Snape’s signature spell might not arrive in its full form, that doesn’t mean a similar spell can’t be incorporated, with more options for the creation of an original, but similar spell forgotten by time.
8The Stunning Lumos Maxima
An Upgrade To The Existing Lumos With More Utility Options
Lumos is already one of the most commonly used spells by players inHogwarts Legacy, but that doesn’t mean it’s perfect.Lumos Maxima is a direct upgrade to the exiting light incantation, exuding a massive amount of light from the tip of the wand. The Maxima version puts Lumos to shame in strength, but isn’t as versatile with its blinding bright light.
Harry Potter Book Changes Created An Underage Magic Plot Hole
The Harry Potter saga made some changes to the books and ended up creating an underage magic plot hole. Here’s what happened.
Where Lumos Maxima would shine is being used in poorly dimly lit caves or large open spaces, being able to fully illuminate giant set-pieces. Its usefulness doesn’t stop there, as it could even be used in or to get out of combat when used correctly. The main purpose of Lumos Maxima is to blind anyone looking at the caster, letting them stun enemies for a quick getawayor to sneak past unsuspecting targets while they reel from the light.

7Defodio, The Gouging Spell
Opening New Options For Treasure Hunting
Defodio is one of those spells that’s certainly not as flashy as the more iconic options out there, but still has plenty of uses. Also being known as the Gouging Spell,it’s used for both digging and carving with careful precision, living up to its name. The most memorable use of the spell in the series is when Harry and his friends dig their way out of Gringotts bank, with fans also theorizing it was used to engraveDobby’s tombstoneafter his final moments.
Defodio can also be used as a method of carving, which could allow players to engrave custom names or text on objects in the world.

Where Defodio would shine most is being implemented in the already fun scavenger hunts acrossHogwarts Legacy, giving the developers more ways to hide treasure and other collectibles around the world. Aside from simply digging around for treasure, the Defosdio spell would be great for uncovering secret entrances to new locations,or by breaking down weak obstacles. With Defodio’s addition, it would be an easy way to make the maps around Hogwarts even more exciting to explore.
6The Expulso & Reducto Curses
Evening The Playing Field With Powerful Destruction Spells
Enemy Wizards can cast these two spells perfectly fine, but for some reason they’re absent from the player’s arsenal of offensive spells. Being another strange omission fromHogwarts Legacy, letting players cast more combat-oriented spells like Epulso and Reducto would finally even the playing field in wizard duels. Each spell is a variation of a standard explosion spell, with Epulso causing a large-scale AoE effect, while Reducto deals devastating damage to a single target instead.
A step up from the standard damage dealing spells at the player’s disposal.
These two spells would certainly be a blast to use inHogwarts Legacy 2, but their absence in the first game is a bit understandable from a design standpoint. There are so many damage dealing spells in the Harry Potter world that they tend to blend together, with the developers likely wanting to add a wider range of unique options instead. Despite this, either of the two spells would make an excellent addition to the next game, being a step up from the standard damage dealing spells at the player’s disposal.
5The Augmenti Spell
Water Manipulation With Incredible Versatility
The herbology professor Mirabel uses Augmenti to simply water her plants, but this spell has so much more potential for ambitious wizards. Players could use Augmenti to do anything from creating a simple stream of extinguishing water, all the way to holding enemies in huge balls of swirling torrents. Given its wide range of applications,Augmenti is a spell that has nearly unlimited ways it can be incorporated for both combat and regular useinHogwarts Legacy 2.
Why This Mysterious Hogwarts Legacy Outfit Might Not Even Exist & Is Baffling Fans
One Hogwarts Legacy item has become something of a mystery to players, as it doesn’t appear to actually exist within the game itself, despite records.
The most notable use of Augmenti throughout the franchise is one ofDumbledore’s greatest moments, utilizing it against Lord Voldemort in the Order of the Phoenix film.Dumbledore’s battle showed just how powerful the Augmenti spell can be at its peak, but players will likely have a weaker version at their disposal if it does come toHogwarts Legacy 2. Despite this, its ability to knock back enemies, put out fires, or hold targets in the air while damaging them simultaneously makes Augmenti one of the most exciting potential spell inclusions.
4The Raging Fiendfyre
One Of The Deadliest Combat Spells
Out of all the combat oriented spells in the Harry Potter series, Friendfyre is easily one of the most dangerous, being used by Crabbe in the final battle for Hogwarts. This spell is one of the trickier to include inHogwarts Legacy 2, with how insanely powerful it turned out to be in the film, even without a particularly talented caster. The main downside to Fiendfyre is just how difficult it is to control, with only the most skilled wizards having mastery over its unpredictability.
All Sophronia Franklin Quiz Answers (& Rewards) In Hogwarts Legacy
During a main quest, Hogwarts Legacy players meet Sophronia Franklin, a Ravenclaw student with a fondness for trivia. Here’s how to pass her quizzes.
Similar to the Augmenti spell, it would likely have to be scaled down somewhat to match the standard combat style ofHogwarts Legacy.Buteven with a weakened version, Fiendfyre would still be incredibly satisfying to use, with one exciting way to implement the spell would be to let players choose the shape of their fire each time they cast it. Players could range from sending a fiery bird for enemies knocked up into the sky, or a large firey lion to charge through groups with ease.
3The Crafty Animagus spell
Exploration In Different Forms
Animagus is another incredibly prevalent spell throughout theHarry Potterfranchise, allowing the caster to transform themselves into ananimal of their choosing. The Animagus spell has the potential to open up a wide array of exploration options, while collecting different forms throughout the game. Players would be able to transform themselves into a cat or even a rat to crawl through tight spaces, finding hidden collectibles or navigating obstacles.
The only difficulty with adding a spell like this is how much of an undertaking it would be for the developers in full.
The only difficulty with adding a spell like this is how much of an undertaking it would be for the developers in full. Each animal would have to be individually modeled with their own animations, and maps would have to be crafted with this ability in mind. While it would be difficult to add as a regular-use spell, it could still be an inclusion in story-specific levels, letting the player transform temporarily in certain quests.
2The Piertotum Locomotor Charm
A Spell With Extremely Powerful Summoning Potential
One of the spells with the most interesting range of implementations forHogwarts Legacy 2is easily the animated Piertotum Locomotor charm. Most fans will recognize this as the spell used by Madame McGonagall in the final film of the franchise, preparing for the climactic battle for Hogwarts. While this is an extreme example of the spell’s use, it could be balanced quite easily by making it only able to animate a single statue at once.
An incredibly unique spell in the player’s arsenal, making them think about their surroundings more often.
This spell would add another incredibly unique way to tackle combat encountersinstead of spamming simple damage-dealing blasts. Depending on the developer’s vision,Piertotum Locomotor could also be made into a situational spell, with players only able to cast it on pre-existing statuesto aid them in battle. Either way, it would be an incredibly unique spell in the player’s arsenal, making them think about their surroundings more often.
1The Iconic Expecto Patronum
The Most Iconic Missing Spell From The Franchise
Expecto Patronum is by far one of the most iconic and easily recognizable spells for fans ofHarry Potter, making its exclusion from the game all the more shocking. While it technically appears in the game’s story, it’s impossible for players to use on their own. While its uses are very niche in the world of Harry Potter, its inclusion would mean an interesting direction for the story ofHogwarts Legacy 2.
To warrant Expecto Patronum being a unique spell inHogwarts Legacy’ssequel, darker enemies like the soul-sucking Dementors would have to be much more common. The spells' addition would also allow the developers to take the players on ajourney to Azkahaban, returning to one of the most iconic yet unexplored locations in the franchise.
The effect would be worth it to make memorable experiences for long-time fans.
The most interesting aspect of Patronun’s inclusion is the concept of the Patronus themselves, giving players the chance to make their Wizard even more unique.Similar to the sorting hat, players could take an in-game quiz to determine what their specific Patronus would be, or even import their results from Pottermore. While it would take a decent amount of effort to add all the various Patronus forms intoHogwarts Legacy 2, the effect would be worth it to make memorable experiences for long-time fans.
