20 years after the release ofStar Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, the newestStar WarsTV show is set to build on what made George Lucas' prequels so successful. In more than oneStar Warsproject, the end point is a known entity. However, that doesn’t mean that the story itself had to be any less exciting or engaging, something that will certainly be proven withAndorseason 2.
The prequel trilogy revealed the state of the galaxy before the very firstStar Warsmovie,A New Hope, the fourth episode of the Skywalker saga. Nevertheless, knowing how things were going to turn out and the end result by the end ofRevenge of the Sithdid little to mitigate the dynamics and entertainment level. The same will be the case forAndorseason 2, which is expected to culminate and end with the opening scenes of 2016’sRogue One: A Star Wars Story, which in turn ended with the opening scenes ofA New Hope.

A Story Can Be Exciting Even If You Know A Character’s Fate
Anakin In Revenge of the Sith Is A Prime Example
One of the best thingsStar Warsdoes well is its ability to get its fans invested in the journey when the destination is already known and established. The biggest and best example is of course with Anakin Skywalker, the prophesied Chosen One destined to bring balance to the Force found on Tatooine inPhantom Menace. He was then trained and grew up learning the ways of the Jedi as seen inAttack of the Clones.
The prequel trilogy culminates with Anakin as a hero of the Clone Wars who’s ultimately corrupted by the dark side of the Force, loses the love of his life and mother of his children, suffers incredible wounds after trying to kill his old master, and finally becomes the legendaryDarth Vader, one of the greatest cinematic villains of all time. However, Anakin Skywalker’s seduction to the dark side and corruption as Darth Vader had been known about since the release of the original trilogy. What wasn’t known was the full journey that got Anakin to that point.

The 10 Best Anakin Skywalker Episodes From The Clone Wars
The Clone Wars added incredible layers to well-known Star Wars characters, especially Anakin Skywalker. Here are his best episodes in the TV show.
It didn’t matter that audiences familiar withStar Warsknew where Anakin Skywalker was headed from the moment he first appeared as a slave boy on Tatooine in 1999.The prequel trilogy, andRevenge of the Sithin particular, were so successful due to their ability to show and tell the never-before-seen events that resulted in Anakin’s fall and the galaxy’s evolution into what it was during the original trilogy. The entertainment value came from seeing it all unfold, and the same will be just as true forAndorseason 2.

The Beauty Is Always In The Telling, Not In The Mystery
We Know Where Andor Ends Up, But That Doesn’t Matter
In 2016’sRogue One, Cassian Andor was already a dedicated operative for Alliance Intelligence when he took part in the mission to retrieve the Death Star plans and send them to the Rebellion, and gave his life in the process, a pre-established endpoint that didn’t lessen the movie’s overall value. Likewise,Andorseason 1 served to make Cassian’s journey and the overall narrative of the Rebellion’s birth even more dynamic, allowing fans to truly invest and appreciate just how hard it was to defy the Imperial regime (and for Cassian to even take up the cause in the first place).
Now,Andorseason 2 will do the work of showing the Rebellion coming together as an Alliance for the first time. It will show the culmination of Luthen Rael’s years of work in the shadows as Axis, who will likely die in the effort of fighting for a free galaxy. After all,Andorseason 1 showed Luthen himself confirming that he fully expects to die “fighting for a sunrise he’ll never see.”
Star Warsfans have seen the sunrise that Luthen and Cassian are fighting for, and the opportunity to see what it took to make that happen is no less exciting or dynamic as those events are set to unfold in the new season ofStar Warstelevision. The true beauty of prequel projects like this is in the incredible telling and showing how it happened, not in the mystery of how it’s going to end. That’s already been taken care of.
