I’m cautiously optimistic about 2024’sThe Crowmovie, but I would have been much more excited if this earlier reboot attempt had happened. Although a revival ofThe Crowfranchise is just now coming out, a proper reboot has been in the works for years, with all kinds of talented individuals being attached at various points. However, one canceled version ofThe Crowhad me more excited than any, and I’m really disappointed that it didn’t make it out of production.
I have always been a huge fan of the 1994The Crowmovie, and while the sequels left a lot to be desired, I became immensely excited at the talks of aThe Crowreboot years ago. Jason Momoa Was A Great Pick To Play Eric Draven In The Crow

After years of searching for actors and directors,2016 brought the news that Jason Momoa was going to play Eric Dravenin a new franchise reboot titledThe Crow Reborn. Before his tenure as the DCEU’s Aquaman, Jason Momoa was most well-known for his role inGame of Thrones, with the rising star joining director Corin Hardy to work on the newestThe Crowfilm.The Crow Rebornseemed to get further than the previously talked aboutThe Crowreboots, and it seems like it would have been incredibly exciting.
I think that Jason Momoa was a perfect pick for Eric Draven inThe Crow Reborn, and the test footage exists to prove it. After Momoa was cast in 2016,test footage of Momoa portraying Eric in makeup was releasedshortly after, and he looked incredible. Unfortunately, Momoa and Hardy’s version ofThe Crownever came to pass, something that I am incredibly disappointed by.

However, pre-production came to a halt one month before the film entered production in 2018, with Momoa and Hardy announcing that they would be exitingThe Crow Reborn.
Although very few details are known, Momoa and Hardy cited creative differences between themselves and those who own the rights toThe Crowfranchise, with these differences ending the project (viaCBR). A revival ofThe Crowfranchise then went back into a state of troubled development, with the product of these many years only now being released in 2024.
