The28 Years Latertrailer signals a new dimension coming soon to the28 Days Latertrilogy, suggesting that Cillian Murphy’s leading character has taken a dark turn. The sequel has been in development hell for years, but it appears that, at last,28 Years Laterwill answer some questionsraised in the groundbreaking28 Days Later. There are three movies in the28 Days Laterfranchise, with a fourth in development. Interestingly, this fourth movie may center on the intriguing bone temple in the28 Years Latertrailer, which could be related to the fate of28 Days Later’s Jim (Murphy).
28 Days Laterbegins with Jim waking up from a coma to find that the world has collapsed. As he searches for safety, he is joined by the pragmatic Selena (Naomie Harris) and traumatized Hannah (Megan Burns).28 Days Laterhad several alternate endings, but the screened ending shows Jim surviving being shot, with the three building a life together in a remote location, sending signals to passing aircraft. The sequel,28 Weeks Later, does not feature any of the original main characters, butMurphy will now reprise his role in28 Years Later, with a disturbing fate possibly being revealed.

28 Years Later’s Trailer Features 2 Creepy References To “Jimmy”
28 Years Later’s Jimmy Is Almost Certainly A Person (But Which One?)
Both the previous28 Days Latermovies felt disturbingly plausible, while the28 Years Latertrailer sets a more outlandish tone. The trailer suggests that a person called Jimmy will play a central role by making two very creepy references to this figure. First, a religious-sounding message painted on a wall is edited to add the name. Then, an infected man is shown hanging upside-down with the name carved into his body, although his identity is not revealed. Whether these messages are about Jimmy, by Jimmy, or addressed to Jimmy is open to interpretation for now.
Additionally, the very beginning of the28 Years Latertrailer appears to show a small child being addressed as “Jimmy"as he sits in a group of similar-looking children. The scene is set at the start of the apocalypse, which means that this child could not be Jim from28 Days Later, as Jim was an adult in a coma at the time of the outbreak. While the creepy messages in the trailer could refer to this child, setting up a new protagonist, there is another explanation, as Jim could have changed his nickname in the aftermath of28 Days Later.

“Jimmy” Could Be A Reference To Cillian Murphy’s Jim Becoming A Cult Leader
The Writing On The Wall Could Be A Nod To The End Of 28 Days Later
Also revealed in the trailer is an infected man who looks uncannily similar to Jim. However, it has been confirmed thatthe28 Years Latertrailer zombie is not Cillian Murphy. Becoming infected would be a tragic fate, but, asJim was betrayed by the army that claimed they had “the answer to infection,” it is possible that this shock sent him down a dark path. Jim (or Jimmy) could mistrust authority and attract followers of his own, who would see him as a leader. This could lead to him starting a cult and finding himself out of his depth.
The writing on the wall says “Behold, he is coming with the clouds.”

The fact that the rest of the world appeared to continue without the quarantined and infection-ravaged UK could imply that Jim, Selena, and Hannah were left to die, even after signaling a plane. Selena asks, “Do you think they saw us this time?” which confirms that they tried to attract attention, with no success. However, if Jim was rescued by the plane, he still could have started a religion, depending on what messages he left behind. The writing on the wall says “Behold, he is coming with the clouds.” This suggests a person returning from the sky, which would fit.
28 Years Later’s Trailer Is Filled With Cult-Like Imagery (But Doesn’t Reveal An Obvious Villain)
Even The Most Terrifying Cult Leader Will Struggle To Rival 28 Days Later’s Original Twist
The pillars of bones are some of the most striking and disturbing imagery in the28 Years Latertrailer, and the effort that it would take to create, maintain, and clean them would be monumental. In an apocalyptic world, everyday survival is the primary focus, so the bones must have an importance equal to survival. Still, although the trailer has shown this cult-like imagery, including a bloody mask and a possible child sacrifice, no main villain has yet been shown. Star Aaron Taylor-Johnson even gave a cryptic hint, saying thatnone of28 Years Later’s confirmed stars are the movie’s lead.
28 Days Later Is A Zombie Movie & I’m Tired Of Pretending It Isn’t
The makers of 28 Days Later have always resisted describing it as a zombie movie, but come on — it has all the hallmarks of a zombie movie.
The original28 Days Laterselected the “zombie” idea and took the story in a completely new and groundbreaking direction, which included its terrifying villains.28 Days Laterintroduced a disturbing twistwhen the initially charming Major West (Christopher Eccleston) revealed that he and his men were luring women to the encampment with the intent of forcibly impregnating them. This twist will be hard to top, especially as cults are such a common trope in post-apocalyptic movies.28 Years Latermust make this cult stand out, and if a cult leader is the main villain, they will have to be extraordinary.
Cillian Murphy’s Jim Becoming A Powerful Villain Is A Tragic Fate (But Exciting For 28 Years Later)
Jim Becoming A Cult Leader Would Be Worse Than Becoming Infected
Jim had one of the most interesting and original beginnings in a post-apocalyptic movie, as he never got to see the virus spread. Jim woke in the aftermath of the action and spent much of the movie terrified, confused, and grieving for his old life and his parents. Seeing him becoming a powerful villain in a cult-driven could take his story in a tragic direction, but it would be exciting for28 Years Later. As the28 Years Latertrailer confirms that the infected have evolved, it would make sense that the survivors have also developed, for better or worse.
Even in Jim’s parents' tragic “goodbye” note in28 Days Later, they call him Jim, and not Jimmy.
Jim has been through some harrowing ordeals, and although the rage virus is terrifying, it quickly appears to make the sufferer forget who they areand the pain that they are in. Becoming the leader of a group of people and likely worshipped in a godlike manner would put yet more pressure on Jim, who has already suffered so much. The fact that the virus still exists even after all this time is ominous, and whether Jim (or Jimmy) becomes a cult leader or not,28 Years Laterlooks set to answer some questions in a very disturbing way.
