Reacher Season 3, Episode 4 Review: I Wish This Fallen Character Was Still Around To Be Reacher’s Longterm Sidekick

Reacher season 3, episode 4, aptly named “Dominique”, offers an immersive and heart-wrenching portrayal of the fallen Robin to Reacher’s Batman.

Garber In Reacher Season 3, Episode 4 Is Jack Reacher’s Mentor & A Major Book Character

Garber didn’t appear in Lee Child’s Persuader book

Like Neagley, Garber doesn’t appear in the original novel at all, but his appearance is a useful addition to “Dominique.” Once Kohl is snatched by Quinn later in the episode, Garber gives his full attention to recovering the young Sergeant, in addition to reading Reacher a breakdown of Quinn’s troubling psychological profile.Garber’s relationship with Jack mirrors Reacher and Kohl’s, which is one of mutual respectand sees the mentor using their experience to help their mentee come to their own conclusions.

In the books,Garber played a key role in several novels and first appeared in the second bookDie Trying. Most of his appearances come from prequel novels though, as Garber passed away before the events of book three,Tripwire. Garber’s calm, logical approach to investigation rubbed off on Reacher in his own approach, as did his use of mottos like “Never get distracted from the exact job at hand.” This last mantra calms Reacher down when he becomes overwhelmed by the thoughts of Quinn torturing Kohl, and refocuses his thoughts on finding her.

Reacher Season 3 Only Scratches The Surface Of Garber & Reacher’s Relationship

Is Garber’s appearance hinting at the book season 4 will adapt?

Garber’s appearance is relatively brief inReacherseason 3, and limited to flashbacks. Still, there is so much about his manner and approach to cases that Reacher drew from. He’s not some hard case either and has such respect for the people who work under his command that he immediately apologizes for getting snappy with an officer during the hunt for Kohl.Garber shares Reacher’s sense of justice too, as he quietly signs off on his plan to kill Quinn, stating his rule “Do it once, do it right.”

“Dominique” only hints at the connection between Garber and Reacher, but his appearance could set up the next novel Amazon’s series will adapt. Garber was a key player inDie Trying, though if the series adaptsTripwireinstead, his appearance would again be limited to flashbacks.Tripwirewould introduce Garber’s daughter Jodie too, who has a romantic relationship with Reacherafter they reunite following her father’s passing.

There’s a chance the next adaptation could be of the prequel novels, which would be wise to cover early in the show’s run before Alan Ritchson ages out of playing a younger Reacher…

There’s even a chance the next adaptation will be one of the prequel novels, which would be wise to cover early in the show’s run before Ritchson ages out of playing a younger Reacher. It would be cool to see Andreas Apergis return too, since he’s completely believable as the manReacherhimself looked up to.
