Lobo Began as a Parody, But Soon Took on a Life of His Own

Lobo and Superman Have Never Liked Each Other

The loud and violent Lobo was co-created by Keith Giffen in the mid-1980s during his stint onThe Omega Men.Created as a commentary on characters such as Wolverine, Lobo nevertheless caught on with fans. Within a decade, Lobo became one of DC’s top characters, headlining a bevy of miniseries and one-shots. Around this time,Lobo had his first meeting with Superman, instigating one of DC’s longest-standing rivalries.Superman looks for the good in everyone he meets, but Lobo, with his brash, violent and excessive personality, stretches this belief to its limits.

Given the tempestuous nature of Superman and Lobo’s relationship, their new alliance is a historic occasion.

Recent events in theSupermanfamily of titles threatened to drive an even bigger wedge between the Last Son of Krypton and the Last Son of Czarnia. Long-time foe Brainiac somehow created an army of Czarnians, which should have been impossible given the species is extinct. Seeing his people for the first time in years compromised Lobo’s thinking, and he allied himself with them. Surprisingly, when he saw he was wrong, Lobo swallowed his pride and admitted it as such. Given the tempestuous nature of Superman and Lobo’s relationship, their new alliance is a historic occasion.

Will Superman and Lobo’s New Friendship Last?

Superman and Lobo Would Make a Great Team

As seen inAction Comics#1066, Superman and Lobo make a formidable team. In addition to both being the last members of their respective species, Superman and Lobo are two of DC’s strongest and most resilient characters, making this pairing one of the publisher’s most powerful. Superman and Lobo wasted many years hating each other, and even the Main Man’s time in theJustice Leaguedid little to assuage the Man of Steel’s doubts. While it may be a stretch to callSupermanand Lobo “best friends,” the duo have at last buried the hatchet.
