Tin Manhas been mostly forgotten, but it is understandable.Blending sci-fi and fantasyis no easy task, and whileTin Mandoes an adequate job,there are moments when the narrative forgets that it is supposed to be fantasy andscience fiction, not just one or the other.Tin Man’s versions of the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion seem awkward and even a little forced. Azkadellia’s flying monkeys are straight-up bizarre because she holds them as tattoos on her chest and releases them only when necessary.

Despite the eccentric qualities ofTin Man,the miniseries is still a lot of fun with excellent acting. It is an amusing adaptation to watch, especially once getting past its bizarre factor. Azkadellia may not be aspowerful asWicked’s Elphaba orThe Wizard of Oz’s Wicked Witch of the West, but she holds her own and is a unique interpretation of the classic character. Glinda’s role might be significantly minimized, but her presence is essential all the same. AsTin Manprogresses, the narrative becomes more entertaining, making it easier to get lost in the playful adaptation.

Elphaba displays resistance, and as a result, the Wizard and Madame Morrible label her as the enemy. Azkadellia punishes people who fight against her reign of terror in the O.Z. Although the villains differ inWicked and Tin Man, their treacherous tactics are similar.

Resistance is also present in bothWickedandTin Man, but they illustrate this theme in different ways.InWicked, Elphaba is the resistance, and although the firstWickedfilm does not portray her violence,Wicked Part 2will. InTin Man, the resistance against Azkadellia’s reign is unafraid to use violent tactics against Azkadellia’s soldiers to get what they want. However, Elphaba is firmly against harming innocent civilians, and the O.Z.’s resistance does not display violence against anyone who is not connected to Azkadellia.
