Summary

After five successful seasons on TV,Yellowstoneis sadly coming to an end in late 2024, but, thankfully, the franchise will continue as Taylor Sheridan has several spinoffs and sequel series in motion (including one set to feature three ofYellowstone’s main cast members). The Paramount Network neo-Western drama, created by Sheridan and John Linson, debuted in June 2018 and slowly but surely became one of the most talked about shows on TV. Due to its success,Paramount was persuaded to extend its working relationship with Sheridan, accounting for the various upcoming series in theYellowstoneuniverse.

Taylor Sheridan’s deal with Paramount lasts until 2028 and primarily focuses on the producer/writer/director creating content for Paramount+.

Although fans might be sad that the parent series is ending afterYellowstoneseason 5, part 2, the good news is that Sheridan and Paramount still have many series in the works to look forward to. Some will continue taking viewers back in time to witness other generations of the Dutton family at the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, while others will pick up where the original TV show leaves off at the end of its series finale. Whatever the case, each planned and reportedYellowstonespinoff is exciting for those who want more from the franchise, even afterKevin Costner’s John Dutton III is gone.

Yellowstone

Cast

Yellowstone follows the Dutton family, led by patriarch John Dutton, as they defend their expansive ranch against external threats from land developers, an Indian reservation, and America’s first national park. Released on July 18, 2025, this series examines the complex dynamics and violent conflicts surrounding the largest contiguous ranch in the United States.

Of course, before fans can look ahead to the various excitingYellowstonespinoffs and sequel series, they must bid farewell to the original TV show. TheYellowstoneseason 5, part 1 finale was released on August 25, 2025, and part 2 will premiere almost two years later. The 2023 Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and Writers Guild of America (WGA) strikes andKevin Costner’s exit fromYellowstonelikely halted progress on the production of part 2. Butthe beginning ofYellowstone’s end will finally arrive on August 01, 2025, on the Paramount Network.

Why Kevin Costner Left Yellowstone

Paramount has not confirmed when theYellowstoneseries finale will air. Since there are six episodes in part 2, though, the final hour may debut on June 18, 2025,if there are no breaks between episodes. So, viewers could know all the answers toYellowstone’s most pressing questions, like the final result of Beth and Jamie’s feud and John Dutton’s fate, before the new year. However, only time will tell when fans can anticipate theYellowstoneseries finale. Thankfully, they have had ample time to prepare to say goodbye to some characters during the neo-Western drama’s ending.

Yellowstone’s New Casting Gives Me Mixed Feelings After Kevin Costner’s Exit

Paramount Network has announced three big stars who are set to appear in the upcoming Yellowstone spinoff, but none of them are Matthew McConaughey.

1923

1923 is a series following the Dutton family during the early twentieth century. It explores the challenges they face amidst pandemics, the end of Prohibition, historic drought, and the Great Depression, as they struggle to maintain their home in the mountain west.

Unlike1883(Yellowstone’s first spinoff),1923has earned itself a season 2 renewal, which is expected to arrive sometime in 2025. The Western drama TV series, created by Taylor Sheridan, follows one previous generation of the Dutton family living on the ranch in 1923 (as the title suggests).Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford leadthe cast of1923as Cara and Jacob Dutton, the great-granduncle and great-grandaunt of John Dutton III. Together, they did not have any children, but Cara and Jacob raised Spencer (Kevin Costner’s character’s grandfather) and John Sr. (Spencer’s older brother) as their own.

Donald Whitfield

Living in the 1920s in Montana certainly was not easy, and this generation of the Dutton family in1923underwent many obstacles, including droughts, Prohibition, sheepherders, the early stages of the Great Depression, and many other societal and economic issues. Their story will continue when1923season 2 is released. The cast (which includestwo new members — Jennifer Carpenter as Mamie Fossett and Janet Montgomery as Hillary) and crew began filming the second season in early July 2024 and production is expected to last until September. So, a 2025 premiere is likely, but Paramount has yet to confirm a date.

41944

Release Date: TBA

Taylor Sheridan hasanotherYellowstoneprequel seriesin store —1944,which, as one could guess, will take place in 1944. Not much is known about the upcoming TV show as it was announced to be in development in February 2023, but the cast, premise, and everything in between is relatively a mystery. How1923season 2 ends should give the audience an indication of what might happen 21 years later at the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, andfans should expect to see a handful of familiar faces in the Dutton family in the next prequel.

Given that the upcoming prequel will be set just 15 years before John III’s birth, it’s plausible that the baby version of Kevin Costner’s character could make an appearance in [1944].

Spencer and Alexandra Dutton are certainly candidates, meaning that John Dutton II (the couple’s son and John Dutton III’s father) might finally have a significant role intheYellowstoneTV shows. The odds are likely thatJohn II will be a main character in1944.But as for who will play him, Paramount has not disclosed that information (or any other cast members for that matter as the series is still in the pre-production stage).

Given that the upcoming prequel will be set just 15 years before John III’s birth, it’s plausible that the baby version of Kevin Costner’s character could make an appearance. Nothing has been confirmed, though, andit seems like Sheridan and the otherYellowstoneproducers have their sights set on other spinoffstaking place in this universe.

36666

6666is another one of the upcomingYellowstoneTV shows that not much is known about as Taylor Sheridan claimed that it was “on hold” in June 2023. Nevertheless, the premise is pretty obvious thanks to its name.6666will revolve around the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas(which is a real ranch in King County, Texas). As fans might recall, Jimmy Hurdstrom was sent to the Four Sixes Ranch inYellowstoneseason 4. He decided to stay instead of returning to Montana after falling in love with the place and with a woman named Emily. So, Jimmy and Emily could easily reprise their roles in6666.

Additionally, the spinoff will be set in the present day,but it’s unclear if it will take place after the events ofthe reportedly highly emotionalYellowstoneseries finaleor sometime beforehand. However, Paramount has teased that theYellowstonespinoff6666’s storywill explore the history of the Four Sixes Ranch, hinting at possible flashbacks. PerTV Guide,Paramount’s6666press release revealed:

“Founded when Comanches still ruled West Texas, no ranch in America is more steeped in the history of the West than the 6666. Still operating as it did two centuries before, and encompassing an entire county, the 6666 has inspired a new scripted series where the rule of law and the laws of nature merge in a place where the most dangerous thing one does is the next thing. The 6666 is synonymous with the merciless endeavor to raise the finest horses and livestock in the world, and ultimately, where world-class cowboys are born and made.”

2The Madison

Release Date: 2025

The Madison, which was previously titled2024,will serve as an offshoot ofYellowstoneand presumably feature an all-new cast. According toTVLine, the tentatively titled spinoff will reportedly chronicleStacy Clyburn (a rich matriarch) and her family’s journey when they move from the glitz and glamour of New York City to the gritty and down-to-earth Montanaafter Stacy’s husband and brother-in-law’s deaths. The two men tragically died in a plane crash, and their deaths prompted the big move across the country. However, Paramount has yet to confirm this information concerning the upcomingYellowstoneTV series.

A lot of the upcomingYellowstonespinoffs and sequel series have been delayed due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.

The cast ofThe Madisonis shaping up to consist ofKurt Russell, Michelle Pfeiffer, Patrick J. Adams, and Beau Garrett.Pfieffer will presumably play Stacy in the show, while Russell, Adams, and Garrett’s roles are unknown. But, as mentioned above, nothing has been finalized as of the writing of this article as the actors are nearing deals concerning their involvement with the spinoff. Filming is reportedly scheduled to begin in late August 2024 in New York, Montana, and Texas, andThe Madisonis expected to premiere in 2025.

New Taylor Sheridan Show Puts A Perfect Twist On Kevin Costner’s Yellowstone Role

Landman already seems similar to Yellowstone, but Taylor Sheridan’s next show could be an interesting and fresh take on Kevin Costner’s John Dutton.

1Yellowstone Sequel

The last (known) upcomingYellowstonespinoff is the unnamed sequel seriesfeaturing the likely returns of Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton, Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler, and Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton.Similar toThe Madison,Paramount has kept relatively hush about Beth, Rip, and Kayce’s next show, but it will take place followingthe events of theYellowstoneseason 5, part 2 finale. It will serve as a legitimate sequel series, and its story will presumably transpire at the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch in Montana.

Unfortunately, the information surrounding the returns of Beth, Rip, and Kayce has not been confirmed by Taylor Sheridan or Paramount. So, only some of them or none of the three may be the main characters in the upcoming TV show. Fans should expect to see some familiar faces inthe cast of theYellowstonesequel series, though, seeing as it is a sequel. But theYellowstonefinale will determine the course of the next series in the franchise.
