Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, the 2014 sequel to the breakout hit horror game, introduces a whole new host of animatronics to join the original cast. A new line of animatronics, alongside the original gang ofFive Nights at Freddy’s,join forces to keep a very unfortunate security guard on his toes until five (or seven) nights have passed.

The two main groups are the Toy and the Withered animatronics, each of which has their own version of Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy. They’re joined by new animatronicslike the Marionette and Balloon Boy, who each bring their own type of fear to the point-and-click horror game. With double the animatronics on the loose, some stick out in terms of scariness much more than their counterparts.

11Balloon Boy

Just A Boy With A Sign

First and foremost of all the animatronics,Balloon Boy is just not scary. A little boy with a striped shirt and big blue eyes holding a sign and saying “Hi!”, Balloon Boy is not much of an antagonist. Balloon Boy never directly attacks the player, though he can hinder gameplay, which makes him more annoying than threatening, especially in the earlier nights of the game.

Five Nights At Freddy’s Balloon Boy Theory Makes A Running Joke More Tragic

Balloon Boy appears as a constant running joke throughout Five Nights at Freddy’s, but one theory makes his jump scares much more tragic.

Since Balloon Boy is a Toy animatronic, he is clean and new. He lacks that worn-down, broken look that adds so much to the earlier animatronics. While Balloon Boy is very polite with his “Hello!”,he doesn’t make a very frightening foe.

10Toy Freddy

The Most Basic Toy Animatronic

The new generation of animatronics for this game are the Toy line. Shinier, smoother, and with rosier cheeks, the Toy animatronics are the updated version of the original gang. Toy Freddy is the leader of the new pack, but this version of Freddydoesn’t pack the same punch as the previous one.

The one improvement that Toy Freddy has is in his eyes, as they turn entirely black and pupil-less when facing the security guard’s desk. Even Toy Freddy’s poses are less scary than the other animatronics, as he looks around at the security guard with more curiosity than menace. It’s believed theFive Nights At Freddy’s 2movie will feature Toy animatronicslike the second game.

9Toy Bonnie

Bonnie’s Least Scary Appearance

Shiny and new, Toy Bonnie is the updated version of Bonnie inFive Nights at Freddy’s 2.When compared to the other Bonnie present in this game,Toy Bonnie is not nearly as creepy.

The bright colors and shiny texture, which all of the Toy animatronics unfortunately have, don’t give the same uncanny and realistic look that the older animatronics had. However,Toy Bonnie’s wide-eyed stare does place him above Toy Freddyin terms of scariness.

8Withered Foxy

Almost The Same As The First Game

Ofall the Withered animatronics, Foxy is the least scary, but still ranks above some of the new Toy animatronics.Foxy is largely unchanged from the first game, as his appearance was already slightly dilapidated.

What makes this version of Foxy extra scary is thathe is one of only two animatronics that is not tricked by the fake Freddy maskworn by the security guard. Instead, the only way to scare off Withered Foxy is to shine a flashlight down the hall whenever he makes an appearance. Watch the jumpscare in the video above fromPopcorn Colonel.

7Withered Freddy

A More Active, But Largely Similar Freddy

If it’s not broken, don’t fix it. That goes for Withered Freddy, as of all the Withered animatronics, Freddy is the least changed from his previous appearance. This version of the titular animatronic is slightly dirtier and ripped, but looks andacts the same as the first gamewhich is still a good thing sincehe was the scariest animatronic inFive Nights at Freddy’s.

The 15 Scariest Characters In FNAF, Ranked

Five Nights At Freddy’s is filled with tons of scary animatronic monsters, but which ten get the honor of being the scariest in the franchise?

The main difference is that this Freddy makes more frequent appearances in the earlier nights of the game, which somehow makes him less scary than before since his appearance has less weight to it.He still ranks above his Toy version in terms of scariness due entirely to his posein front of the security desk with his hand reached out like he’s just about to try removing the fake Freddy mask from the guard’s head.

6Withered Golden Freddy

It’s Me (And I Don’t Need To Change)

Golden Freddy has always haunted Fazbear Entertainment, but the sequel shows an even worse-off version of the suit. WitheredGolden Freddy sits in a similar positionto the first game, his ear missing, wires sticking out of every hole, and splattered blood all over his fur.

This version of Golden Freddy is not much different from his appearance inFive Nights at Freddy’s,butthe haunting presence the empty suit has over both games makes him always one of the scarier charactersin anyFive Nights at Freddy’sgame. Check out the video above fromJaze Cinema, with added voice lines.

5Toy Chica

Less Is More In Terms Of Mouths

While Bonnie was the scariest of the original gang,Toy Chica is undoubtedly the scariest of the Toy line.Toy Chica’s beak is removable, which reveals the endoskeleton mouth underneath, and gives herthe appearance of an empty smile.

On top of her missing beak is the entirely black eyes that Toy Chica has while she stalks the security guard throughout the game.Toy Chica has the most unsettling appearance of all the Toy animatronics, but her older counterpart still beats her out even in the creepy mouth department.

4Mangle

A Monster Of Parts

What used to be a version of a Toy Foxy is the Mangle. An amalgamation of parts and wires, the Mangle is a monsterand the only Toy animatronic to be in as bad a state as the Withered animatronics. Children have taken apart and rebuilt Mangle since the restaurant opened, giving this animatronic their unique look.

Since Mangle has a few more arms and legs than the other animatronics, they crawl around on every surface of the building while a garbled radio signal emits from somewhere in their body. Mangle’s appearance is terrifying enough, buttheir behavior and sound design makes them one of the scarier animatronics in the game.Popcorn Colonelclipped Mangle’s attack, above.

3Withered Chica

Chica’s Best Feature Is Always Her Mouth

Unlike her appearance in the firstFive Nights at Freddy’s, which included a heavy-lidded stare right up at the camera, this Chica has no eyelids. She has no hands. She does, however, havea very large mouth that hangs open as she staresdirectly at the player from the middle of the screen. The “Let’s Eat!!!” bib Chica has always worn, which seemed like a cute touch in the first game, becomes much more threatening asChica’s slack jaw has expanded into a gaping maw with an endoskeleton mouth underneath.

This version of Chica seems larger than ever before, which gives her a very imposing look as she T-Poses over the security guard and asserts her dominance. Chica is not only one of the scariest characters inFive Nights at Freddy’s 2,butone of the scariest in the entire franchise of games. Watch the scare fromGeminids, above.

2Marionette

An Enemy Best Kept Locked Away

The Marionette, or the Puppet, is an icon ofFive Nights at Freddy’s 2. This monstrous jack-in-the-box features as one of the core gameplay mechanics, as players must constantly keep a remote music box playing to prevent an instant game over. The relatively simple design of the Marionette, with its white mask, tear stains, and black smile, alongside its behavior and in-game description from the phone guy makes it a much scarier foe than the other more active animatronics.

What makes the Marionette even more frightening than the otherFive Nights at Freddy’s 2enemies is how little you see it. The various Freddys, Bonnies, and Chicas appear frequently throughout the nights whilethe Puppet only makes an appearance when everything has gone wrong. Phone Guy’s description of the Puppet is enough to alert players to its unique danger. He says “It was always… thinking, and it can go anywhere.” Trying in vain to forever stop the music box from reaching its final tune adds to the constant stress ofFive Nights at Freddy’s 2.The jumpscare can be seen above, thanks toGeminids.
