After 47 Years, I Think Star Wars Is Finally Paying Off One Of A New Hope’s Most Intriguing Lines
Andorstar Diego Luna confirms that season 2 will serve as an origin story for Cassian’s bond with one key ally featured inRogue One: A Star Wars Story(2016). Created by Tony Gilroy, the hitStar Warsprequel show premiered on Disney+ in 2022, depicting the early years of Cassian’s life before he became a hero of the Rebellion. The show was critically acclaimed, andAndorseason 2is now set to continue the story, chronicling Cassian’s life leading directly up to the events ofRogue One.
After the first footage fromAndorseason 2 seemingly featured K-2S0’s return, Luna reveals in a new interview withEmpirethat the show’s sophomore outing will give Cassian and the droid an origin story. While he keeps the droid’s introduction mysterious, the actor teases thatthe new episodes will shed light on some key questions regarding K-2S0’s backstory with Cassian. Luna’s comment, however, suggests that audiences shouldn’t expect K-2S0 to be exactly as they remember it, at least not at first. Check out his comment below:

“From an audience perspective, they’ve probably made their own story about how Cassian and K-2 got to work together. It tells you a lot about Cassian that his best friend is a droid. And a droid he had to reprogramme. But how did that actually happen and who was he before? Those questions are going to be answered.”

One Popular K-2S0 Fan Theory Explained
K-2S0, voiced by Alan Tudyk, became a fan-favorite aspect ofRogue Oneupon that film’s release, and it now stands as one of the most memorableStar Warsdroids. The droid was not only formidable in combat, but he also provided a great deal of comic relief as he often shared his brutally honest opinions and observations. Though the droid will seemingly start off in the show as a no-nonsense Imperial security droid,Andorseason 2 could end up having more moments of comedy after Cassian reprograms K-2S0.
Andor Brutally Reverses Star Wars' Most Cruel Droid Trend
While droids die frequently and often in the Star Wars galaxy, Andor tragically reverses the brutal trend when it comes to little B2EMO.
Theories already exist regarding K-2S0’s reprogramming, andsome have theorized that Cassian reprograms an Imperial security droid by implanting his old droid’s processor. InAndorseason 1, droid B2EMO serves as an assistant to the Andor family, and it’s possible that Cassian implanting its processor into an Imperial security droid gives B2EMO a new voice and personality that blends aspects of the two droids together.

Our Take On K-2S0 In Andor Season 2
How The Droid Could Further Enhance Cassian
It seemed like an odd choice, at first, to build an entire show around the origin story of Cassian afterRogue One, butAndorended up being arguably the bestDisney+Star Warsshow. With Cassian having been so thoughtfully expanded as a character in season 1, K-2S0’s incorporation into season 2 seems likely to be just as strong.
Cassian is mostly a solitary figure throughout season 1, and it will be interesting to see him quite literally program himself a friend. In addition to creating the opportunity for some comedy,K-2S0’s inclusion could shed further light on Cassian’s emotions and state of mind, withAndorseason 2 ultimately helping to further enhance the events ofRogue One.
