With the influx of sequels being made recently, it’s only fair thatThe Devil Wears Pradagets its own movie sequel. The original film starred famous movie stars Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Meryl Streep. The characters played by the three actors all worked for Runway magazine in New York. Fortunately for the viewers, according toEntertainment Weekly, the threeactors along with Stanley Tucci will be returningto make the long-anticipated sequel. However, there is one thing that the sequel needs to do to make it even more exciting than it already is. This is to focus on Emily.
The first film was all about Andy’s journey working at Runway from when she began until she left the company. Andy’s story has been told, but one underutilized character from the film was Emily (Emily Blunt). The film saw Emily grovel as Miranda Priestly’s assistant, wanting to build her way up the hierarchy of the company. So, what better way than to make the sequel all about Emily, showing where she ended up in her career? WithStreep slated to return, perhaps she could be at odds with Miranda, allowing audiences to see a different dynamic between the characters.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 Should Focus On Emily This Time Around
There Is More Story To Tell Around Emily Rather Than Andy
Although a sequel to the original novel calledRevenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returnswas written and published, there is no indication that the film’s sequel will follow the book. In the book, Andy works for a bridal magazine while planning her own wedding, until her life is flipped upside down by the return of Miranda. Although there is a story there, if the film were to do this story, it would be quite repetitive of the original. It’s important that this new film tells a new story, preferably from Emily’s perspective.
“The devil” referenced in the title wouldn’t necessarily mean Miranda, but rather the figurehead of the fashion magazine.

It would be interesting to see Emily’s progression in her profession, whether she is still working for Runway or not. It would also be interesting to see her at odds with Miranda Priestly, or even acting as the new Miranda, having worked for her for so many years. This could be an interesting metaphor, as “the devil” referenced in the title wouldn’t necessarily mean Miranda, but rather the figurehead of the fashion magazine. Either way, there is a lot more potential for a new, more interesting story surrounding Emilythan another movie about Andy’s life.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 Cannot Be A Traditional Sequel To Andy’s Story
Too Much Time Has Passed To Make It A Story About Andy
Although the second book is based around Andy, it wouldn’t make sense for the second film to. The cast and creatives have already acknowledged this and realized that it has been more than 15 years since the release of the first film. Because of this time jump, if the film is set today in 2024 (or 2025), it is important for the film to show how the fashion industry has changed since the first film. This meansit wouldn’t be possible to do this by focusing on Andy,as she turned her back on the fashion industry after the first film.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 Is Thankfully Avoiding A Meryl Streep Mistake A $402M Hit Made 6 Years Ago
The Devil Wears Prada 2 will avoid Mamma Mia 2’s mistake by keeping Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly central, ensuring a compelling and dynamic sequel.
Whichever direction the secondThe Devil Wears Pradafilm takes, it will be great as a sequel has been anticipated for so long. It would just be nice for the film to take a different direction away from the first, and the easiest, most obvious way the film can do this is by focusing the movie away from Andy, and more towards Emily and her journey since the first film.
