It’s been a little over a month since theMy Hero Academiamanga ended, and plenty of commentary around the conclusion of the story has sparked already. At the end of the story, there is an 8-year time-skip in which we see most of former class 1-A students now working as pro heroes. The only one kept from that life seems to beIzuku Midoriya, whois now a teacher at UA High, having lost his One for All quirk during the final battle.
The one who saved Izuku from a potentially unexciting life as a teacher was none other than his childhood friend who had already saved him plenty of times before:Katsuki Bakugo. In a collective effort along with the rest of Class 1-A, and All Might, Bakugo managed to finance the development ofa hero suit that would allow Izuku to perform as a hero again. The ending of the seriesthus gives Deku another chance at a Pro Hero life, and it’s all thanks to his friends.

Bakugo Stated That He Would Become a Rich Popular Hero in Chapter 1
Money Turns Out To Be a Surprisingly Important Factor in My Hero Academia
The one who gives Deku the suitcase with his new hero gear is All Might, to whichDeku remarks on the absurd amount of money it must’ve cost. This is when All Might highlights that Bakugo was “at the heart” of the initiative, and though this does not necessarily translate to him financing the greatest part of the project, there are a few hints that say that might be the case. Being a Pro Hero pays well, andthe higher the hero is in the Billboard ranking, the more money they make.
In the same chapter, Aizawa pointed out how “Todoroki might surpass Bakugo” in the ranking, due to Dynamight’s foul mouth. It’s safe to assume that Bakugo ranks higher than Shoto, who would already be in a privileged position for being Endeavor’s son, a former #1 hero. Regardless,Horikoshi had already teased Bakugo’s wealthy future since chapter 1. A young, middle-school Bakugo exclaims proudly that he would become a top hero and one of the richest people in the world. It’s a small detail, but it proves that Horikoshi didn’t leta single panel go to waste.

Bakugo’s Popularity In-World Finally Catches Up With the One in Real Life
Despite having several traits that would —theoretically— make him loathsome,Bakugo has always been an extremely popular character. In the current Worldwide Character Popularity Poll, Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight has not only placed number one in the midterm results of the hero ranking but his quirk “Explosion” has also won first place on the quirk ranking. The official final results will be announced on December 2nd, though it’s rather unlikely the results will change.
Except for the first one,Bakugo placed first in all official popularity polls, even when he didn’t appear in the manga for over a year because of his dubious status. Bakugo was an extremely intentional and thought-out character from the start, with one of the most solid, if not the best, character arcs in the whole series. His influence on Deku was always a dynamic factor to make the story progress, so it’s only natural that he would be the one to close (or rather, reinstate) Deku’s hero journey with a flourish.
Though the manga has ended,My Hero Academiais far from over. Season 8 was announced for 2025, and the latest movieMy Hero Academia: You’re Nexthas garnered the praise of fans and critics. Additionally, there is more media like the spin-offsVigilantes,Team-Up Missions, andSchool Briefnovels that some fans might’ve not read yet, and they’re all excellent. My Hero Academiahas got plenty of amusing characters, andBakugois just one of them.
