Baldur’s Gate 3is already a stunning game butLarian Studios is making it even prettier with an update specifically for the PlayStation 5 Pro. With the launch of Sony’s updated console, players should expect a brief influx of patches designed to enhance PS5 games by allowing them to take full advantage of the Pro’s beefier specs.Baldur’s Gate 3is right on time with its announcement as the PS5 Pro is now available to purchase so consumers can use the massive RPG to test their new device.
Unveiled in a post on the officialBaldur’s Gate 3blog,Larian Studiosconfirmed that the game has been updated for the PS5 Pro to provide players with new graphical enhancements. Some of the improvements include Quality Mode now running at a native 4K at 30fps, and Performance Mode upscaling from 1440p to 2160p at 60fpsthanks to the power of PSSR. Multiplayer should also be much smoother as split screen on PS5 Pro can now offer 30fps or 60fps depending on whether users have their game set to Quality or Performance Mode.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Never Looked So Good
But Is That Worth A PS5 Pro?
Improving the graphical options forBaldur’s Gate 3is a lovely treat for those enthusiasts who purchased the console but it’s not really enough to justify the purchase. Many fans havequestioned the need for a PS5 Prowhen its technical performance is onlyslightly better than the base PlayStation 5. Given the upgrade’s exorbitant price point, consumers largely feel that the product isn’t worth the money, especially when the improvements will be difficult for many to see with the naked eye.
Having said that,it’s good to know that developers are embracing the new hardware for what it is. It seems unlikely that the PS5 Pro update forBaldur’s Gate 3will convince anyone to pick up the console but it’s still nice to have it as an option. If anything, the upgrade to split-screen multiplayercouldactually be a huge enhancementgiven the mode’s occasionally choppy performance in denser areas.

D&D Subclasses That Should Be Added To Baldur’s Gate 3 Next
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a thorough adaption of tabletop Dungeons & Dragons, but there are plenty of pen and paper subclasses missing from the video game.
Larian’s Commitment To Fans Is Fantastic
The Existence Of A PS5 Pro Patch Is A Great Precedent
The fact that Larian Studios is still putting out meaningful updates forBaldur’s Gate 3a year after its 1.0 release is a testament to the developer’s passion. It could have been easy to simply ignore the launch of the PS5 Pro butLarian instead seized the opportunity to make its already-gorgeous game look even better. I hope more studios go the same route but the industry being the way it is, that may not be the case.
