DCstar Colin Farrell opens up about whetherThe Penguinseason 2 has any chance of happening. While the world waits forThe Batman - Part II, Matt Reeves is expanding his franchise to the small screen withThe PenguinTV show, focusing on Oz Cobb after the events of the first film. This will be the first time a Batman villain is the main character of his own DC show, allowing Penguin to get a whole new spotlight on him.

In a new interview withTotalFilm(viaGamesRadar), Farrell was asked if he thinksThe Penguinseason 2 is a possibility. While he loved the experience of expanding his character in Reeves' universe, Farrell isn’t entirely sure if he would be game forThe Penguinseason 2, sharing the following:

Penguin Series HBO Max

I don’t know, man. Don’t get me wrong – I loved it – but it got in on me a little bit. By the end of it, I was bitching and moaning to anyone who would listen to me that I f—–g wanted it to be finished. I tried to remind them that I had ‘grumpy gratitude.’ I was still grateful, and still honored – I grew up watching Burgess Meredith [who played the role in the ’60s TV series], and then Danny DeVito [in Tim Burton’s 1992 film Batman Returns] was my Penguin – so being a part of the lineage of that storytelling, I really did feel privileged. But by the end of it…It’s not like I didn’t know who I was and I was going out and burning cars and s–t, but… if you take what Matt Reeves created and then what Lauren [LeFranc, showrunner] did and what Mike [Marino, prosthetics and make-up designer] did and put them all together, it was a really powerful experience.

Why The Penguin Doesn’t Need A Season 2

Even thoughThe Penguinhas yet to premiere, the notion of seeing HBO renew it for season 2 feels premature, to say the least. Some stories simply don’t need to be expanded to more than a season, especially since Farrell is confirmed to be next seen as The Penguin inThe Batman - Part II. IfThe Penguinseason 2 were to happen, it would only leave the audience having to wait an extensive amount of time sinceThe Batman - Part IIis set to start filming early next year.

The Penguin Show Cast & DC Character Guide

Set to release in 2024, The Penguin will continue to flesh out Matt Reeves' Gotham with Colin Farrell set to reprise his role as Oz Cobb.

HBO and DC Studios have also made it clear thatThe Penguinis meant to be a limited series, meaning it having a single season is already something they integrated as part of the overall storytelling. It is also key to remember that even if The Penguin doesn’t continue beyond season 1, anotherThe Batmanspinoff TV showis in the works, which could bring the focus to other characters. With the amount of characters that Reeves has and can introduce into his universe, the potential is endless.

The Penguin

It will definitely be fascinating to see how Oz’s trajectory gets further fleshed out throughThe Penguinsince he is going to play some crucial role inThe Batman - Part II. Whether or not other characters from the HBO drama will end up playing vital parts in the sequel remains to be seen, but it wouldn’t be shocking if Reeves planted some seeds through other cast members. With only a week left to go beforeThe Penguinseries premiere,The Batmanuniverse is getting ready to finally grow.
