Colin Macrae was a beloved cast member ofBelow Deck Sailing Yacht, and the show is suffering from his departure. As the Chief Engineer, Colin was known for his easy affability and professionalism. He also had a great relationship with Chief Glenn Shephard, who is currently dealing with an entirely new cast and crew outside of Gary King and Daisy Kelliher. While Davide Morosi could potentially rise to the occasion onBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5as the new engineer, he has pretty big shoes to fill. Currently, theBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5 castis missing Colin.

While Colin mostly stayed out of the drama for a couple of seasons, he got entangled in an epic love triangle inBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 4. Gary and Daisy, previously close friends, hooked up off-camera before the charter season began. However, Daisy and Colin began to develop feelings for each other and engaged in a boatmance. This made Gary jealous, prompting him to intervene and cause drama within their relationship. Colin and Daisy eventually broke up, but the damage was already done.

Colin Was A Fan Favorite On Below Deck Sailing Yacht

He Was A Breath Of Fresh Air

Colin quickly became a fan favorite onBelow Deck Sailing Yachtdue to his laid-back personality, strong work ethic, and sense of humor with the crew, and his presence is missed. Davide seems charming enough, speaking in an Italian accent about being a “free spirit,” in recent episodes, but he can’t match Colin’s energy. As the chief engineer, Colin was seen solving difficult technical issues with the Parsifal III, and he always remained cool as a cucumber. This is why he was a favorite of Captain Glenn’s, who had enough on his plate as the head of the ship.

Colin’s bromance with Gary was also a highlight of the show. It humanized Gary, who could be a troublemaker and made Colin his foil. Colin was known for staying out of the drama and boatmances for two seasons, which made him a voice of reason in high-stress situations. Unfortunately,Colin fell for Chief Stew DaisyinBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 4.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht’s Daisy Kelliher looks shocked and Gary King is serious.

In season 4,Colin’s relationship with Daisybecame a central plotline. Though their romance stirred up some tension within the crew—especially with Gary, who was jealous of his relationship with Daisy—it was still easy to root for Colin because of his sincerity. He was candid about his feelings and seemed to care about Daisy. After their breakup, however, it seemed that Colin needed some space from Daisy, who would still be appearing on the show.

Ratings Aren’t As High As Last Season

Viewers Aren’t Tuning In

Unfortunately, the hitBravoshow is suffering from a dip in ratings so far, and it could be caused by Colin’s absence. According to viewership recorded byProgramming Insider, numbers are significantly lower than in previous seasons. Thus far,Below Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5 episodes have 0.5, 0.52, and 0.55 million views, respectively. In comparison, previous seasons often cracked 1 million views per episode. However,Colin isn’t entirely to blame for the dip in ratings.

BringingGary back after his sexual misconduct incidentwas a big mistake on the part of production. Gary allegedly attempted to sexually assault crew member Samantha Suarez when she was instructed to escort him back to his room after filming confessionals. Bravo didn’t do enough to punish Gary, who’s had issues with inebriation and sticky situations before. It became clearBelow Deck Sailing Yachtproducers didn’t do enough to ensure the safety of the cast and crew.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht TV Series Poster

Production should have fired Gary after the sexual misconduct incident, but they swept the accusations under the rug.

It’s possible fans aren’t interested in tuning in toBelow Deck Sailing Yachtbecause of Gary’s significant presence on the show. While there were rumors Gary would be edited out or have his role reduced, he seems to remain a primary cast member on the show thus far. Colin was the best part of their relationship, andGary needed to be fired. Perhaps that would bring Colin (and ratings) back where they need to be.

The Colin, Daisy, & Gary Dynamic Was The Best Part Of The Show

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Is Lost Without Their Relationships

The dynamic between Colin, Daisy, and Gary was the best part of the show, and it all fell apart after the dramatic love triangle inBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 4. Colin and Gary were pals, often joking around and having a genuine bromance that was fun to watch onscreen. Additionally, Daisy’s no-nonsense personality combined with dry sarcasm provided another layer to the friendship. Unfortunately,Gary couldn’t be an adult. He had to meddle in Colin and Daisy’s relationship because he was jealous of their boatmance.

Daisy and Gary together inBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 5 just isn’t the same. Initially, Daisy demanded an apology from Gary, bursting out into tears. She told him she needed him, and he wasn’t there for her. In subsequent episodes, it’s become clear that they’re in some sort of power struggle, with each trying to boss over the other. It’s tiring, and the old dynamic with Colin was infinitely better.

Will Colin Return For Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 6?

He Could Come Back

Colin could come back forBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 6, but some changes would need to happen. Gary should be fired after too many incidences of misconduct onboard. Additionally, he’s a combative personality and not a team player. He doesn’t even train his deckhands well. Colin would also need to make amends with Daisy off-camera. Both of them are consummate professionals, so they could likely work that out. Daisy seemed more hurt that Gary wasn’t there for her as a friend.

Colin hasn’t addressed whether he will return forBelow Deck Sailing Yachtseason 6.

However, Colin’s also enjoying life on a revamped catamaran, so he might not want to come back toBelow Deck Sailing Yacht. He bought a damaged vessel and fixed it up, starting a YouTube channel and documenting his sailing adventures. Hopefully, Captain Glenn and Bravo producers can convince Colin to return as Chief Engineer. Without him, the hit spin-off series might not survive another season. Viewership has plummeted, and production choices are to blame. Letting Colin go was a bigger mistake than they may have anticipated.

Below Deck Sailing Yachtairs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo and streams the next day on Peacock.
