Marvel Studios just retconned a huge easter egg from the Defenders Saga by introducing a brand-new hero to theMCUinDaredevil: Born Again. Releasing as part of the MCU’s Phase 5 and a continuation of the originalDaredevilseries,Daredevil: Born Againhas quickly become one of Marvel Studios' most popular projects. The revival series has featured some twists and turns for Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock, and marked the return of somefamiliar faces from the Defenders Saga, butDaredevil: Born Againhas also already debuted exciting new heroes and villains.

One of these brand-new characters isHector Ayala, the vigilante known as White Tigerwho was portrayed by the late Kamar de los Reyes. Reyes tragically passed away in December 2023, making his appearance inDaredevil: Born Againeven more poignant, and making it even more crucial that his legacy as the White Tiger is continued properly.Marvel Studios has already introduced the perfect character to take over from Hector Ayala as White Tiger, and her debut retcons another character already mentioned in theDefenders Saga’sJessica Jonesseries.

Daredevil: Born Again Introduced Angela Del Toro To The MCU

Camila Rodriguez Plays Angela Del Toro In Daredevil: Born Again

Hector Ayala was also the first incarnation of the White Tiger in Marvel Comics, and after he was shot and killed while trying to escape from jail, despite being innocent, Hector’s niece, Angela del Toro, inherited her uncle’s Jade Tiger amulets.Angela del Toro would be the perfect character to take over from Hector Ayala as the White Tiger inDaredevil: Born Again, and the series just introduced her to the MCU. The live-actionAngela del Toro, played by Camila Rodriguez, is very different to her Marvel Comics counterpart, but could have a similar destiny.

Known for her roles inStation 19, How to Cry on CommandandWizards of Waverly Place,Camila Rodriguez has already delivered a strong performance in the MCU as Angela del Toro. Her raw emotion in her touching interaction with Matt Murdock inDaredevil: Born Againepisode 4, “Sic Semper Systema,” created a very memorable moment, and helped push Murdock to take up the Daredevil mantle again. While Angela del Toro’s debut inDaredevil: Born Againis very exciting, it also makes a huge change to a character fromJessica Jonesseason 1.

Angela Del Toro Was A Very Different Character In Jessica Jones

Angela del Toro has seen a huge transformation inDaredevil: Born Again, and the Phase 5 series has seemingly forgotten that the character was already mentioned inJessica Jonesseason 1. Episode 6, “AKA You’re a Winner!” saw Luke Cage hire Jessica Jones to help find someone who has evidence regarding the death of his wife, Reva Connors.Jones is reluctant to take on this case, given her personal connection to Cage and the fact that it was her who killed Reva, under Kilgrave’s control, so she instead tried to give Cage information for another private investigator, Angela del Toro.

Marvel’s Setting Up Daredevil’s Best Possible MCU Storyline & We Want These 10 Heroes To Join His Fight Against Kingpin

One of Daredevil’s most exciting stories from Marvel Comics is perfectly set up in the MCU, so he could join forces with New York’s other superheroes.

WhileJessica Jones’Angela del Toro never appeared physically, Krysten Ritter’s hero described her as an excellent investigator with reasonable rates, implying that she is an adult. This suggests she is more comic-accurate than the new Angela del Toro inDaredevil: Born Again, as the character was an ex-FBI agent in Marvel Comics who quit to become the White Tiger. It seems Marvel Studios has completely ignored this mention of Angela del Toro, and has recreated the character from scratch, which might be the best choice the MCU could have made.

Angela Del Toro’s MCU Reinvention Gives Her A More Promising Future

Marvel Studios Has Limitless Opportunities With The New Angela Del Toro

Angela del Toro is presumably headed toward becoming the new White Tiger, following her uncle’s sudden murder at the end ofDaredevil: Born Againepisode 3, “The Hollow of His Hand.” This would establish her as one of the most powerful and exciting new street-level heroes in the MCU, becoming the Black Panther of New York City, which creates many brilliant opportunities for her future. Since Angela del Toro has been recreated as a teenager, it’s possible herWhite Tiger could be a Young Avenger in the MCU, which makes the team’s upcoming debut even more enticing.

There have been five White Tigers in Marvel Comics, Hector Ayala was the first and he passed his amulets on to his niece, Angela del Toro, and his sister, Ava Ayala, who were fourth and fifth, respectively. The second White Tiger was an actual white Bengal tiger who was experimented on by the High Evolutionary, and the third used a stolen Black Panther costume and a synthetic heart-shaped herb to become the White Tiger.

In Marvel Comics, Angela del Toro trains as the White Tiger underMatt Murdock’s Daredevil, which could be exactly whereDaredevil: Born Againis heading now that Murdock has decided to become the Man Without Fear again. It would be brilliant to see Charlie Cox’s Daredevil get a protégé, especially since Angela del Toro and Matt Murdock have an interesting connection in Marvel Comics, particularly in the darkShadowlandstoryline.Daredevil: Born Againhas created many new avenues by reinventing Angela del Toro, so it’s for the best thatJessica Jones' version is ignored.
