Dark Matterauthor shares the first behind-the-scenes photos from the season 2 set. Based on Blake Crouch’s 2016 novel of the same name, the Apple TV+ series follows Professor Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton) as he fights to return to his wife and son after being abducted into an alternate version of his life.Dark Matterwas renewed for season 2in August 2024, andit’s expected to return sometime in 2026.
Crouchtook to Instagram to share the first BTS images from the season 2 set as filming kicked off. The carousel saw Edgerton in a familiar black coat and jeans and the mysterious black cube that serves as a portal to the multiverse in the show. Edgerton, producer Camilla Grove, EP Matt Tolmach, and producer Jacque Ben-Zekry are all tagged in the post. Dark Matter Could Return In Early 2026
In January,Edgerton teased that filming would start"really soon," and with principal photography underway, production for season 2 has officially started. Season 1 kicked off filming in October 2022 and arrived at Apple TV+ 17 months later in May 2024, though factors like the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2023 writers' and actors' strikes may have contributed to its lengthy turnaround. With filming being officially underway, this places season 2’s return inthe first half of 2026.

With Dark Matter season 2 set to enter active production, Joel Edgerton has provided a coy comment about what the story’s continuation will look like.

His involvement in the principal photography along with the series' lead and other producers means thatCrouch is integral in creating season 2.

The BTS photo teases the return of the “cube,” aka the portal to the parallel universe, which means that world hopping could again take the central stage in season 2, but hopefully in a brand-new way that the series hasn’t explored yet.

However, his fear of being followed by another him might come true in season 2. With production starting, more information on the upcoming season will come soon.
