Dave The Diver DLC Will Be The First Step Toward Expanding The Franchise

Minirocket Has Plans For The Game’s Characters And Story

Minirocket’s Jaeho Hwang shares that the original story forDave the Diverwas intentionally sparse, with the aim of keeping the game casual enough to play without needing to get into its lore. The DLC that’s in the works will reveal more of the “personal stories” of Dave and his companions in the game. The DLC is just the beginning, as Hwang hopes to expand theDave the DiverIP with more games.“I think that’s every director’s dream since we have a relatable character.” Dave struck a chord with fans, even getting anomination for The Game Awards Best Independent Gamedespite being published by industry giant Nexon.

Hwang shares that the developers are considering how toexpand the franchise with spinoffs for other characters,as well as other potential career paths and stories for Dave to undertake. According to Hwang: “I also want to make separate games about each character to show how they met, what they did before coming to the Blue Hole.” Creating other games based on the supporting characters of Dave’s story would allow the studio to expand the franchise into other genres.

Our Take: Dave The Diver’s Charm Would Work Well In Any Profession

His Established Backstory Makes His Story Difficult, But Not Impossible, To Expand

Hwang’s eventual hope is tocontinue Dave’s story through other professions and tell more stories like his.Dave has “always been a diver, so we really haven’t thought about how we should move with Dave.” Despitedrawing from many different gamesfor inspiration, the actual character comes from one of Hwang’s previous games,Evil Factory. He already has an established backstory, so there’s not much leeway in his past to move into other genres or professions.

It’s clear from the way Hwang speaks about Dave that he’s not ready to let the character go yet.I think Dave’s personality makes him the perfect candidate for any profession, and I would love to see him go out into the world and make even more quirky friends.
