WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for AQUAMAN #1!Aquamanis plunging headfirst into a thrilling new solo series, delivering a character-driven, action-packed narrative. Writer and creative lead Jeremy Adams has promised that his bold vision for the iconic hero will“change Aquaman in a big way.”But the waves of change don’t stop with the Justice League’s aquatic powerhouse—Atlantis itself is on the brink of a transformation that could redefine its very essence.
…The Blue likely plays a critical role in Atlantis’s disappearance…
Aquaman’s Atlantis has had a rough go of it lately. Those who followed theAbsolute Powercrisis event will recall the massive damage the underwater city suffered at the hands ofAmanda Waller’s power-stealing Depth Charge—an Amazo robot modeled after Aquaman himself.
Following those events, it was clear that one of Aquaman’s top priorities would be rebuilding his kingdom. InAquaman#1 by Jeremy Adams and John Timms, Atlantis is finally restored to its former glory. However, after reading the issue in its entirety, it’s clear that this rebuilt Atlantis wasn’t destined to last.

In an interview with AIPT Comics, Jeremy Adams revealed that the series begins with Arthur reclaiming his role as king of Atlantis. This follows the events ofAbsolute Power, where Arthur lost his powers—now restored—and Atlantis was left in ruins. Adams explained that piecing Atlantis back together and sitting on the throne would clash with Arthur’s adventure-loving, free-spirited nature, making life on the throne feel constricting. However, the first issue of the series introduces an unexpected solution to this problem:Arthur is called away to face a crisis, only to return and find Atlantis decimated once again, its people missing, and a magical pearl as his only clue.
Obviously, this wasn’t the solution Arthur was looking for, but nonetheless, he got his wish not to be confined to the throne.WhileAquaman#1keeps the mystery of Atlantis’s disappearance intact, Adams’ interview with AIPT Comics may hint at the force behind it:“The Blue.”In the same discussion about rebuilding Atlantis,Adams described The Blue as“a new cosmological element,”connecting water’s mystical properties to the larger DC Universe.Whether The Blue is a cosmic entity, a new dimension, or a primordial force shaping the universe, it seems likely that this element plays a critical role in Atlantis’s disappearance.

Aquaman#1 concludes with Arthur tracing the mysterious pearl linked to Atlantis’s disappearance to a gate. Believing it could lead to his people, his city, and his loved ones, he makes the bold decision to step through. While the issue ends with Arthur entering the gate, it’s highly likely he’s ventured into a new dimension or realm. If Atlantis lies on the other side, the city will almost certainly have undergone significant visual and structural changes. This sets the stage forAquaman—and fans—to encounter an Atlantis that may be entirely unrecognizable from the one we’ve come to know.
