Sean Gunn as Kraglin in the MCU and Maxwell Lord in DC Comics

“Your own body is the vessel for what you’re doing, so obviously… no one is gonna confuse me and Pedro Pascal’s performance. So obviously we’re going to do something different. I think that James (Gunn) is good about directing me towards the relevant source material. So, I think, the whole concept of the character takes a totally different type of tack. I saw the movie and Pedro is obviously a great actor, but what he does in that movie is not really relevant to anything that I’m doing.”

What Sean Gunn’s Comments On Maxwell Lord Mean

Sean Gunn’s Maxwell Lord Will Be Different From Pedro Pascal’s Right Off The Bat

While Pedro Pascal’s acclaimed acting skills made his Maxwell Lord portrayal a highlight ofWonder Woman 1984, there’s still plenty of room for other interpretations of the character.Pascal played a fully villainous version of Lord that served as Diana Prince’s main antagonist, whereas Gunn could be playing a drastically different iteration in the DCU. Pascal’s character embodied the charismatic viciousness of a 1980s entrepeneur. Meanwhile, Gunn could be playing a sinister anti-hero, a morally gray metahuman, or a full-fledged supervillain.

Our Take On Maxwell Lord In The DCU

There’s Plenty Of Uncharted Source Material Involving Maxwell Lord In DC Comics

While entertaining,Pedro Pascal’s Maxwell Lord is quite different from his comic-book counterpart. Maxwell Lord’s wish to take over the world out of sheer greed isn’t as explicit in the source material, and his use of the wish-granting Dreamstone is completely original toWonder Woman 1984.Pascal’s Maxwell Lord also lacks his mind-controlling abilities from the comics, and his relationship with the metahuman community is limited to Wonder Woman and Cheetah.
