Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #10 was a somewhat slow installment, but that didn’t make it any less of a great setup for episode #11 and beyond. Once again, the series has proven itself to have a masterful understanding of drama and character writing, and it’s continually made it one of the best anime to watch of the year.

Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #10 picked up where episode #9 left off with Oran discovering the humanoid invader in Ojiro’s apartment, but since he seemed friendly and overall harmless, Oran and Kadode befriended him and let him stay at Kadode’s apartment. Things didn’t go completely smoothly from there, of course, as in the background, the government continued to make moves that were sure to lead toDead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction’s prologue.

An invader about to possess Oba’s body

There was plenty to like about episode #10, and it left a lot to be excited about for the rest of the series.

Hiroshi in episode 10

Produced By Production +h.; Directed By Tomoyuki Kurokawa

Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #10 picked up where episode #9 left off with Oran telling Kadode about the humanoid invader she discovered. Kadode recognized the invader as Oba, a popular singer who went missing on the August 31 event, and a flashback revealed thatthe real Oba died on August 31 and his body was possessed by an alien on the verge of death after its ship crashed. None of that was conveyed to Kadode and Oran; with Oba having nowhere to go and showing no ill intentions, he was invited to live in Kadode’s apartment.

After that, Kadode and Oran’s daily lives continued without incident until invaders were spotted running around their campus. The government was quick to arrive on the scene and murder the invaders, even with dozens of students watching, and later that day,the Japanese government announced that they had just passed a law to make it legal for people to hunt the invaders. Not only that, but they also revealed their intention to obtain Fantasium, an alternative energy that powers the alien mothership, all of which seemed to be the main motivation behind the conflict.

Oran in episode 10

Later, Oba revealed a device that allowed the user to observe someone’s memories, and Oran offered to let Oba use it on her. Thanks to that, Oba saw both the events of the mysterious flashback arc up to Kadode’s death and the more normal progression of events in the story, although he didn’t relay that to the girls. Later that night,Oba asked if Oran knew that the world was on the verge of ending, and while Oran had no idea what he was talking about, she still asked him not to tell Kadode about any of it.

Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #10 continued to add to the theory of Oran being a time traveler, but it added a new complication to that idea. Oba said that there were two sets of memories inside Oran, so rather than Oran simply going back in time,Oran might have created a timeline where Kadode didn’t die by sending her consciousness into another version of herself. A story like that adds the moral implications of Oran essentially erasing a version of herself from existence, and however the anime decides to handle that will surely be great to see.

Kohiruimaki in episode 10

Compared to some of the more recent episodes,Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #10 was notably slow in terms of plot. There were big developments like the reveal of Oba’s identity and the continued radicalization of the government and Kohiruimaki’s group, but overall,Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionepisode #10 didn’t move the plot forward as much as its predecessors did. With how heavy some of the recent episodes have been, though, a comparatively low-key episode was plenty warranted, and it was still great to watch from start to finish.

A lot of what made episode #10 so great to watch was, as always, the strong writing of the series. Between the strong character writing that can be both hilarious and dramatic and the increasingly harrowing elements of social commentary, the writing fortheDead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionanimeremains as strong as ever, and it never ceases to be the best thing about the series.Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destructionhas passed the halfway point of its run, and everything in its last few weeks will surely be great to see.
