Diablo 4Season 5’s new activity, the Infernal Hordes, is the best way to farm for new gear and crafting materials. At the end of every run, you can spend Aether, the resource gathered during the activity, on gear chests, materials chests, and gold to comfortably upgrade and masterwork your gear. The activity works akin to a rogue-like, with each wave getting progressively harder as the player chooses from a variety of buffs and debuffs.
However, in order tomake the most of the Infernal Hordes, there are strategies to employ for acquiring as much Aether as possible. Some modifiers are vastly superior to others, as some can actively hinder how much Aether can be gathered per run. With Blizzard’s recent update to Infernal Hordes modifiers, there’s no better time to go over the best tactics.

For the purposes of this guide, the Infernal Hordes mode covered will be Tier 7, which includes all the modifiers.
Diablo 4: How To Get Abyssal Scrolls
Diablo 4 Season 5 has added a new activity called Infernal Hordes that can be upgraded by using the new Abyssal Scroll item, here’s how to get them.
Gathering 1000 Aether In Diablo 4’s Infernal Hordes
Hellborne Are Your New Best Friends
In order to come close to gathering 1000 Aether in a single run, certain buffs must be prioritized and chosen. Spawning as many Hellborne as possible will drastically increase the amount of Aether gathered per run, making bothThe Summoned Hellborne and The Burning Hellborneinvaluable. These buffs spawn Hellborne in different ways, meaning getting both of them doubles the sources of Hellborne. The Surging Elite and the Surging Hellborne will drastically increase their spawn rates, exponentially increasing the amount of Aether generated.

Spawning in Aether Lords may seem like an optimal choice, but they are actually the worst buffs you can utilize. These enemies take way too long to slay for the amount of Aether they drop, which decreases the number of events spawned per wave. This means thatAether Lords essentially act as blockers, preventing other more valuable events from spawning. This results in fewer Hellborne entering the arena, which cuts off the most lucrative source of Aether.
What To Spend Aether On In Diablo 4
Gear, Gold, And Masterworking
Once the player has gathered plenty of Aether, they must choose between gear, gold, and materials to spend it on at the end of the activity. This is an excellent spot tofarm for The Umbracrux Unique, which has proved incredibly strong for Rogues in Season 5. Finding valuable Greater Affixes is always possible, but it could also be a waste to spend too much Aether on gear.It is always safe to spend Aether on materials, as the Masterwork Materials and Stygian Stones that drop from it are quite valuable when finalizing character builds.
Stygian Stones can be used to summon Tormented Bosses, which have high drop rates forMythic Uniques such as the Harlequin Crest.

Masterworking gear can make your character stronger, which should help players farm Infernal Hordes more efficiently. Tier 7-8 Infernal Hordes will reward players withhundreds of Neathiron per run, which can speed up the Masterwork process by a substantial margin compared to the Artificer’s Pit. By employing the right strategies in Infernal Hordes, players will never run out of materials and gold inDiablo 4.
