Abyssal Scrolls are a plentiful drop within the Infernal Hordes activity, as they will drop from both gear chests and material chests. Their drop rate can be boosted by 40% with Smoldering Ashes in Season Blessings by utilizing the Urn of Abyssal Knowledge. Each Abyssal Scroll can only be used once, so make sure to use them on theInfernal Compassesyou wish to upgrade.
The higher the Infernal Hordes Compass you consume, the greater the amount of Abyssal Scrolls you will receive during the rewards segment at the end of the activity.You cannot receive more Infernal Hordes Compasses by playing through the activity, so Abyssal Scrolls can only be used on Compasses you already have. However, they can also be crafted at the Occultist.
Abyssal Scrolls are excellent for the early game, but once you have acquired enough Sigil Powder, you can easily craft whatever tier of Infernal Hordes you wish.

Infernal Hordes are also a great new way to farm masterwork materials, as higher tiers will begin to drop Obducite, Ingolith, and Neathiron. Before Season 5, the only way to acquire these materials was to push far intothe Artificer’s Pit, which could take dozens of runs to fully upgrade a single gear piece.
Now, the Infernal Hordes will drop much more masterwork materials than the Artificer’s Pit, but can prove to be more challenging at higher tiers. In order to have a steady supply of masterwork materials, Abyssal Scrolls are quite helpful to upgrade low-tier Infernal Compasses inDiablo 4.
