TheHD-2D Remakeadds a new scene after the credits in whichthe Dragon Queen’s high priest swears to protect her child and reveals his own name to be Hargon.

Given thatDQ3is a prequel to the first two games, this Easter egg establishes a new origin for a legacy character in the lore ofDragon Questand potentially rewrites his role in the following games.

The Upcoming Remakes Could Be Building A New Overarching Story
With this new revelation that Hargon was present for the events ofDQ3, it opens the door for even more connections between the games. For example,Hargon could now play a role inDragon Quest 1as an associate of that game’s main villain, the Dragonlord. Connections could go even further, even tying the trilogy more deeply into thecritically acclaimedDragon Quest 11to weave a grander narrative.
Dragon Quest 1,2, and3are known as the Erdrick Trilogy due to their protagonists sharing a lineage and the title of Erdrick. The Erdrick name also makes an appearance inDragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age.

As reported byFamitsu(viaAutomaton),Dragon Questseries creator Yuji Hori has promised thatplaying the remake games in story order will lead to some new revelationsby the time players reach the end ofDragon Quest 2. What those new revelations could be is anyone’s guess, but 2025 may prove to be a very good year forDragon Questfans, and this new scene at the end ofDragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remakemay be a hint at the coming changes.
