Matthew Gray Gubler’s early look in his post-Criminal MindsTV role is revealed in a brand-new video forEinstein. After playing Dr. Spencer Reid in the CBS profiling procedural, the fan-favorite actor is ready to move on to a fresh show. Instead of deviating from the tried-and-tested small screen sandbox, however, Gubler will be spearheading an upcoming procedural for the same network titledEinstein. Admittedly, coming out ofCriminal Minds' 15-season runand launching a new show would be a challenge, but it seems like Gubler is enjoying the process.

The actor was shooting on the grounds of the University of Toronto’s Victoria College campus at Queens Park in Toronto, Canada for his new series. No other cast members were spotted during the session, but it looked like Gubler was enjoying the process while also making sure to interact with his fans. Check out the clip below:

What Gubler’s Einstein Is About
Gubler Plays Another Genius
As hinted by the title,Einsteintackles the descendant of the famed intellectual, Albert Einstein, who will be played by Gubler. It’s based on a German TV show, with CBS trying to get the project off the ground for years. In fact, this is thethird time thatEinstein’s development is being picked up, and considering that it is filming, it’s safe to say that it will finally end up on the broadcaster’s 2025-2026 TV schedule. In the show, Gubler’s character gets into trouble and starts to work with the police to solve crimes as part of his punishment.
The aforementioned set video doesn’t feature Salazar, but it’s likely because the exterior scenes are to establish Gubler’s character’s time as a professor before he inevitably gets roped into working with law enforcement in Einstein.

Gubler is being joined by Rosa Salazar as Maddie Paris— a Detective Inspector for the New Jersey State Police who is forced to work with Professor Einstein. Despite Gubler’s character being a known genius, she is supposedly hesitant to team up with him. He Looks Just Like Reid
The moment I found out that Gubler was cast in Einstein, I immediately thought thatthe role was very similar to Reid inCriminal Minds. Granted that the BAU’s golden boy was not one to get into trouble, unless it was for a really important matter, I expected that playing Professor Einstein would not be different from Gubler’s breakout role. SeeingEinstein’s set video, however, it’s almost as if I’m just watching Reid’s new life post-BAU. It would be interesting to see how he would differentiate the characters from each other, which is still very important forEinstein’s success.
Yes! Criminal Minds: Evolution Can Still Make Up For Spencer Reid’s Already Disappointing Season 2 Return
Spencer Reid’s Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 is already massively disappointing, but luckily, the Paramount+ show has the chance to make amends.
Before he embarks on a brand-new TV adventure inEinstein, however, Gubler will return inCriminal Minds: Evolutionseason 3in May. His involvement is very minimal, as he is expected to only be in a handful of scenes in a single episode. Still, that’s better than not seeing him at all, especially after theCriminal Mindssequel was bogged with questions about Reid’s whereabouts in the last 2 seasons.
