Ark: Survival Ascendedcan already feel like an out-of-this-world experience, but one mod can make it into a true fantasy world.Ascendedhas done a good job capturing what made its predecessor good and expanding on it. Though it is not without faults, the game is unarguably a massive improvement. The title’s success is helpful given that the highly anticipated sequel has faced considerable delays and still has no concrete launch date. Regardless, the upgraded title is still set to see more DLC in the near future.
Another huge boost to the prehistoric survival game is the modding community. These mods range from small quality-of-life changes to massive content inclusions.Ascendedalso makes it easy to use mods with its own in-game mod page, along with support for popular mod sites like Curseforge. ThoughArk: Survival Ascended’s best modsare not needed to make it a good game, as some other games need, they can take the experience to a new level, and that’s exactly what Draconic Chronicles does.

Draconic Chronicles byAve(via Curseforge) is a massive mod that adds some of thecoolest modded creatures toArk: Survival Ascendedwith over 20 types of dragons.The mod is playable on every map and has a wealth of levels to access regardless of the player’s stage in the game. Though still in development, the mod gets steady updates to add new features and stay stable with any advances toAscended. A bonus, which is incredible for multiplayer servers, is that Draconic Chronicles is crossplay-compatible.

Draconic Chronicles also has an in-game structure, the Draconic Guide, that helps players sort through all the content. This guide has a page for each creature and what they can do. This is extended with a spawn chart of each map that will show the areas to find the designated dragon. The guide will also show all necessary crafting recipes and how to get the modded items. If this isn’t enough, the mod creator also created a Discord group that has a built-in wiki for the mod.
Draconic Chronicles also adds two bosses, as of now, that can be defeated to gain certain items. The first is the Thunder Plague Pyro Wyvern, a dangerous undead beast with three heads that each control one of the three original damage types for Wyverns. The other is the Blazewyv3rn-x9, a deadly robotic enemy with an immense amount of firepower. Both bosses will be some of the toughest fights inArk, but reward players with the Skeletal Armor and Wyvern/Dragon Tek Armor respectively.

To begin, Draconic Chronicles takes the original Wyverns ofArk,already some of thecoolest flying creatures inAscended, and tunes them slightly. Their abilities work the same, but they have an upgraded appearance and are tamed through the mod method.Dragons are tamed by crafting specific types of Essence. Each has its own recipe in the Draconic Cauldron. After that, all but the Wyrm and Sand Dragon are the usual knock-out tames thatAscendedplayers will be used to.

While Ark: Survival Ascended has been massively successful since its rocky 2023 launch, could it actually be hurting the future of the franchise?
Draconic Chronicles adds some new additions to the Wyvern family in the Ember, Blood, Tropical, Inferno, Undead, and Wyvernicorn. Each one is crafted to feel different and explore a new power spike in this prehistoric world. Outside the Wyvern family, there are the Polar Dragon, Sand Dragon, Rejuvenating Dragon, Bloodstorm Dragon, Flameforge Dragon, Tidal Dragon, Hydro Dragon, Glowveil Dragon, Undead Dragon, Headless Hydra, Dragonkin, and Wyrm.
Though each Dragon is strong in its own right, there are a handful that stand out for various reasons. For example,the Flameforge Dragon is the ultimate companion for mining, capable of harvesting great amounts of Metal and Stone, while also smelting them in its inventory. In contrast, something like the Headless Hydra excels in combat scenarios. This is due to its strong melee and beam attacks that are dependent on how many of its max of five heads are active.

Fantastical Weaponry
Draconic Chronicles also introduces numerous gear options to reward players. Players can craft their own armor and structures to become a ruler of dragons living in a draconic castle. These come along with multiple crafting/system stations that hold great value. One of which is the Draconic Incubator,capable of holding numerous eggs and able to keep them cool with built-in air conditioning. Another popular feature is the Draconic Altar, which can be used to craft dragon chibis and show off a player’s progress.
The dragons themselves are also given rewards to further boost their power. Though a few have built-in saddles/armor, the vast majority need one crafted.The Skeletal and Tek Wyvern armor is used for all the Wyvernsand gives them bonuses for health and damage. However, the non-Wyverns have fewer options and currently only have access to Tek Armor for the Hydro Dragon. This armor comes with the bonus ability of the Hydro Dragon being able to put up a large energy shield.
What The Future Holds For Draconic Chronicles
Endless Possibilities
Draconic Chronicles has a promising future due to the immense potential it has. The guide still has plenty of placeholders for new items and bosses. If the current bosses are any indication,the next additions will be massive battles that introduce dangerous hybrids. New dragons also mean new rewards for the players, likely boosting the strength of themselves and their dragons.
Outside bosses,there are numerous other dragons from fiction that could join the roster. Proper balance would likely be the largest concern, but Draconic Chronicles does a good job of keeping things in check. Even then, given the theme of this fantastical mod, it would make sense that some aspects overpower the prehistoric entities players are used to. If anything, it would be cool to see more additions incorporating the Tek side ofArk,like the Blazewyv3rn-x9.
Overall, Draconic Chronicles is an amazing mod to giveAscendeda new feel. Though it is definitely more suited to experienced players, new survivors can still learn the mod easily and start their own dragon army. Even if one doesn’t wish to tame these beasts, they make for great challenges and reward items with huge benefits alongside adding some interesting fantasy flair toArk: Survival Ascended.
