Ezra Bridgerfamously – and humorously – uses the alias of Jabba the Hutt inStar Wars Rebels, and this joke takes on new meaning when considering one Legends-eraStar Warsretcon. Ezra Bridger is the youngest member of the Ghost crew, which became a Rebel cell and, eventually, an integral part of theRebel Alliance. In addition to being an aspiring Jedi, Bridger is also oftentimes a major source of comic relief inRebels, with his adoption of Jabba as an alias being a running gag.
While partially motivated by his sense of humor, Ezra Bridger typically used the “Jabba” or “Jabba the Hutt” alias when confronted by Imperial officers to keep his real name secret, since he was a fugitive. At one point, a cautious Ezra temporarily used the alias upon encountering an olderDarth Maul, not wishing to trust the former Sith Lord with his real name. Interestingly, Ezra is not the first Star Wars character to assume the name Jabba.

Why Star Wars Originally Had A Human Actor As Jabba the Hutt
Before George Lucas digitally inserted a CGI Jabba the Hutt into the original Star Wars, the vile gangster was played by a human actor. Here’s why.
Although this character is referred to as Jabba in the comics and treated as though he is the real Jabba, he is actually Mosep Binneed, a Nimbanel accountant who works for Jabba the Hutt. While representing his boss, Binneed is referred to as “Jabba the Hut,” with the alternate spelling of Hutt indicating his role as Jabba’s proxy. Unsurprisingly, Binneed’s role and use of the Jabba alias is one of many instances oftheStar WarsLegends continuityfinding clever ways to patch up continuity issues.

EarlyStar Warsmaterials referred to all Hutts as “Huts.”
How Star Wars Fixed Its Jabba The Hut Continuity Problem
Initially, the character who is now known as Mosep Binneed was intended to be the real Jabba the Hutt, causing a continuity problem onceReturn of the Jediwas released. For years, viewers theorized that Mosep Binneed simply used Jabba’s name while operating as Jabba’s proxy and that the title of “Hut” (instead of “Hutt”) further indicated this. TheStar WarsauthorJohn Jackson Miller made this popular theory officially canonin his novelKenobiand in one of his articles in theStar Wars Insidermagazine.
