Summary

The first costumes fromThe Fantastic Four: First Stepshave finally been revealed, and while I think they’re brilliant, a newMCUedit has me convinced they should be even more comic-accurate. Marvel Studios showed pre-viz footage fromThe Fantastic Four: First Stepsat SDCC, and again at D23, with the latter featuring a message from the cast which revealed Joseph Quinn’sJohnny Storm in his Fantastic Four costume. The Fantastic Four: First Stepsis one of the movies I’m most excited for in the MCU’s 2025 schedule, so this was an incredible reveal.

There had been some speculation about what direction Marvel Studios would take with the Fantastic Four’s costumes in the MCU’s Phase 6. The blue-and-white costume that was chosen reminds me of the same-colored suits fromJohn Byrne’s run ofFantastic Fourin 1981, though Marvel Studios has made several changes to the design of the costumes. These blue-and-white suits have never been seen in a mainstreamFantastic Fourmovie before, so it’s a great way to make the MCU’s reboot stand out, but I think Marvel could have gone even further.

A Fan Edit Has Made The Fantastic Four’s First MCU Costumes Even More Perfect

Reddit Has Imagined The Fantastic Four In More Comic-Accurate Costumes

While I love the design of Johnny Storm’s costume as theHuman Torch inThe Fantastic Four: First Steps, I was a little disappointed to see that it wasn’t completely comic-accurate. A new fan edit shared byReddituser ZukoIsKinghas seemingly proved my point, as they have reimagined Johnny Storm’s costume with the more faithful design of a mostly-blue suit with white accents, including gloves, belt and high-collar.This design is much more reminiscent of the Fantastic Four’s costumes in Marvel Comics, and looks incredible as an official MCU suit.

I Love The Design Of The Fantastic Four’s MCU Costumes But They Could Be Better

Marvel Studios Has Given Many Heroes Comic-Accurate Suits

Seeing Joseph Quinn in a more comic-accurate Fantastic Four suit has made my dreams come true. It’s something of a shame that Marvel Studios altered the design of the suits, as they’ve already been tried and tested through their many iterations in Marvel Comics.I’m unsure about why Marvel Studios decided not to give the Fantastic Four more faithful suits, when so many otherMCU heroes have been given comic-accurate costumesin recent years. The likes of Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Ms. Marvel and Peter Parker’s Spider-Man have been given faithful costumes, so why not the Fantastic Four?

All 8 Live-Action Fantastic Four Costumes From Marvel Movies Ranked

The Fantastic Four have had some dramatically different looks across their few film appearances, with clear winners and losers.

I would have been overjoyed to see the Fantastic Four get this treatment in their MCU debut, too. However,I’m still holding out hope that Marvel Studios can improve on these suitsas time goes on.The Fantastic Four: First Stepswill be set in an alternate reality, so who knows how theFantastic Four teamwill change upon their arrival in the MCU’s Earth-616? Some characters have also taken years to evolve into their comic-accurate costumes, so I’m not giving up on the idea of seeing the Fantastic Four get this treatment.
