After his 10-season stint inChicago PD, the actor is moving to a brand new Wolf Entertainment show in the 2024-2025 TV season. What Soffer’s New FBI: International Season 4 Role Means For Chicago PD
Actors playing different roles isn’t new to NBC and Wolf Entertainment’s shared universe. However, this is the first time that someone is transitioning from playing a lead character to portraying an equally prominent one in a different show. Despite that, there seems to beexcitement over Soffer moving toFBI: International, especially after the way he was written out ofChicago PD. While there was no off-screen drama that led to his departure, the way Halstead’s exit played out effectively ruined his legacy in One Chicago, especially after Hailey Upton’s subsequent departure.
While it isn’t impossible to bring him back in Chicago PD season 13, there really is no narrative benefit for both shows to do so
Despite the rushed way Halstead was written out, the door remained open for Soffer to reprise his role inChicago PD. The character even promised to come back to the Windy City after his supposed short stint in Bolivia. However, the actor’s new role as the next face ofFBI: Internationalseason 4significantly decreases the chances of this ever happening. For starters, theFBIspinoff shoots on location, which makes it logistically impossible for Soffer to be involved in One Chicago. Secondly, Wolf Entertainment will want to establish Wes first, and returning as Halstead can distract from that.
Chicago PD Can No Longer Fix Its Worst Character Assassination After Upton’s Exit
After Hailey Upton’s exit, NBC and Wolf Entertainment can never fix Chicago PD’s worst character assassination for an Intelligence member.
Taking all of these into consideration, it’s safe to say thatSoffer’s time as Halstead in One Chicago is effectively done. While it isn’t impossible to bring him back in Chicago PD season 13, there really is no narrative benefit for both shows to do so. Moving forward, he will be Wes, Fly Team’s new leader, inFBI: International.
