Manny finding Gabriela in the wired fence and bringing her to safety made the long-awaited talk between father and daughter unavoidable. Indeed,Cooper’s Ridge’s wildfire running unencumbered forced Manny and Gabriela to confront their feelings, without giving them the chance to run away– as staying in the camp’s toilets protected them from the fire and Manny didn’t need to follow Three Rock’s rules, as he had already broken them by searching for Gabriela. For the first time inFire Countryseason 3,Manny had the chance to express regret for his words and Gabriela could finally tell his father everything.

Gabriela finally telling Manny about having drunk alcohol to numb her feelings and dived from the cliffs to feel something instead let Gabriela talk to the one person who could have understood her the most ever since she started behaving erratically.After months of avoiding any kind of accountability, putting distance between herself and her loved ones,baring it all to her father proved the step Gabriela needed to take to change her future. Similarly,Manny admitting he regretted judging Gabriela instead of understanding her proved a willingness to try and truly change things for the better in their relationship.

Manny needs to realize he should really try to understand Gabriela inFire Country, or their relationship can never flourish.

While there are reasons to see Manny and Gabriela’s talk as a watershed moment, their last scene inFire Countryseason 3, episode 9 hinted atManny and Gabriela possibly falling into their usually dysfunctional dynamic.Manny proposing himself as her guide after telling her she reached rock bottom and Gabriela trusting him to lead her out of the woods after all re-established the pattern of Manny deciding what’s best and Gabriela following him, a major problem in their relationship.
