What Hellboy: The Crooked Man’s VOD Release Date Means For Its Theatrical Chances

This Won’t Be A Comeback For The Hellboy Franchise

Hellboy: The Crooked Manis set to bow in theaters in the U.K. on September 27 after having debuted in several other international territories, including Belgium and Mexico. The film is also expected to become available in theaters in Australia on October 10.Ketchup Entertainment owns the U.S. distribution rights for the newHellboyflick, and it’s now looking likely that the company won’t be releasing the film domestically in theaters at all.

The fact that it has a VOD release date set for early October doesn’t necessarily mean that theater play is off the table, however. While it definitely won’t be shown on the big screen before October 7, it could end up getting some play at some point. If it does, though, most audiences will probably be out of luck, asa theatrical run at this point would be very limited. It certainly wouldn’t be enough for the flick to change the franchise narrative after 2019’s disappointment, and it’s likely anotherHellboymovie won’t arrive for some time.

This Is Not The Hellboy Movie I Wanted

While the story of Hellboy: The Crooked Man is promising, the trailer is anything but. Still, I haven’t written the newest reboot off completely yet.

FromHellboy: The Crooked Mantrailersalone, the film looks to be a fairly low budget production. Combined with the lackluster reception from audiences thus far, it was probably decided that the film would fare better as a straight-to-VOD title. While it’s a shame that the film won’t get time to shine on the big screen in the U.S., a lower key VOD release might help the film eventually become a cult favorite as it finds its audience. In any case, it’s clear that U.S. audiences looking to watchHellboy: The Crooked Mandon’t have long to wait.
