Marvelannounced that the newHellverineseries by writer Benjamin Percy and artist Raffaele Ienco will premiere this December. The series follows Logan’s recently-resurrected son, Akihiro, as he continues his journey as the Hellverine, a role originally held by his father. The Hellverine is one of Marvel’s most interesting additions to the Ghost Rider family. While he may not be considered an official Ghost Rider yet, he certainly possesses most of the same attributes and then some. Akihiro, formerly known as Daken, takes the reins as the latestmutant to host a Spirit of Vengeance. In theLegion of Xseries - by Si Spurrier and Jan Bazaldua -the mutants Banshee and Juggernaut are temporarily fused with Spirits of Vengeancebut are unable to hold onto their possessions for long.Akihiro, however, is a different beast entirely.
After being bonded to Wolverine, Bagra-ghul was overwhelmed by Logan’s immense guilt, inspiring it to turn its violence toward the sinful.
Akihiro was raised to be a killer with little but hate left in his heart. After living decades believing his father betrayed him, a near-endless pit grew in his soul that craved vengeance. Fortunately, the demon inside the freshly resurrected Akihiro, Bagra-ghul, has already bonded with a relatively noble hero - Wolverine. The demon was originallya creation of Mephistodesigned to slaughter the innocent on Earth and erect horrific shrines using the victims’ corpses in Mephisto’s honor.However, after being bonded to Wolverine, Bagra-ghul was overwhelmed by Logan’s immense guilt, inspiring it to turn its violence toward the sinful.
Akihiro’s Rebirth Will Soon Be Christened in Blood and Vengeance
Now that the demon and Akihiro are together,Hellverine has taken to the road, alongside his squadron of hellfire-imbued zombified soldiers, to deliver vengeance on those who wish to bring Hell to Earth.As part of this new role, Akihiro and Bagra-ghul must learn to co-exist with one another. Helping them along in this journey will be none other than the recently-ousted Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange.
Ghost Ridersalready possess a near-infinite wellspring of powerthat, combined with Akihiro’s claws and healing factor, the Hellverine will be an unmatched force to be reckoned with. As of now, the possibilities are endless for the son ofWolverine, but what is certain is that whereverHellverine’s Hell Cycle takes him, a path of blood, brimstone, and vengeance will surely be left behind.
