Hogwarts Legacyis a painstakingly accurate recreation of the iconic School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and that meanssome of the fictional institution’s less cozy aspects have also been included in the game. While exploring the grounds, players will likely stumble upon Hogwarts' kitchen run entirely by House Elves who prepare all the dishes eaten by the students and staff. It’s a well-documented aspect of the Wizarding World, appearing extensively in theHarry Potterbooks, butHogwarts Legacygoes the extra mile to demonstrate how the sausage (or steak) is made.

Posted to Reddit by uservangoghfvckkyourself, theHogwarts Legacyfan shared a brief video demonstrating how the House Elves prepare steak:They tenderize it by simply jumping on it with their bare feet.

One has to assume that the food is later cleaned before it’s ultimately cooked, but the revelation has shocked many fans who were unaware of the steps taken to prepare what appears to be such a delicious meal. Fortunately,Hogwarts Legacydoesn’t actually allow students to sit down and eat in the Great Hall, which is an issue that many users have already raised.

Hogwarts Legacy Should Add An Option To Eat

Even If The Food Is A Little Gross

Hogwarts Legacygoes out of its way to present players with both the school’s kitchen and the Great Hall but doesn’t actually allow them to meaningfully engage with either. The community has long requested that Avalanche Software add a mechanic that grants users an opportunity to sit down for meal timeswith therest of the students in the respective houses; Doing so could even provide small buffs based on the food consumed. A small feature like that could go a long way to providing a more immersive experience.

At the end of the day,Hogwarts Legacywasnever meant to be a simulationsoproviding those kinds of in-depth elements was likely outside of the project’s scope. Having said that, food is a major part of the Wizarding Worldfranchise and theHarry Potterseries features many significant events taking place during mealtimes in the Great Hall. One can only hope thata possible sequel further fleshes out the systemand gives fans the meals they so desperately crave.

Hogwarts Legacy’s Rumored DLC Really Needs To Avoid The One Feature We Were All Waiting For

The rumored DLC for Hogwarts Legacy should avoid adding an iconic broomstick sport, since fan reaction to its own dedicated game has cooled.

Screen Rant’s Take: Hogwarts Legacy Doesn’t Need Mealtimes

Even Though It Would Be Fun

If the discovery of House Elves stomping on steaks isn’t enough to dissuade theHogwarts Legacycommunity from eating the in-game food, I don’t know what is. With that being said,I also don’t believe the inclusion of a food-based mechanic would make the game fundamentally better; I have to imagine Avalanche Software tested such a system before eventually deciding to prioritize other aspects of the experience. Enthusiasts may miss out on having lunch in the Great Hall but there’s already so much to do that I can’t say I long for an in-depth eating system.
