In a new interview withEntertainment Tonight,Hunter Schafer was directly asked about the ongoing rumors that she is being eyed to play Mystique in the newX-Menfilm for Marvel Studios. Schafer confirmed that she had seen the online buzz and the fan-casting,stating she would be more than game to join the MCU as the famous X-Men character:
I did see [the fan casts]! My dad texted me about that, yeah. Yeah, that would be cool. These fan casts come around every once in a while and it’s always very sweet and always for characters that I really like.
What Hunter Schafer’s MCU Comments Mean For The X-Men Reboot
A prominent actor like Schafer being down to join the MCU franchise, especially for a major role like Mystique,is a reminder that theX-Menreboot looks set to be one of the biggest superhero projects coming up in the next few years. Given the massive significance of the X-Men in pop culture, it makes sense whythe mutants will be a big focus for the MCUafter Phase 6 and the conclusion of The Multiverse Saga. While the casting will likely consist of established and unknown stars, there are so many incredible characters that Marvel Studios can play with now that they have the X-Men rights.
What is interesting is that Schafer didn’t directly debunk the rumors about her being eyed for Mystique, but that could speak to the fact that a director has not been hired yet. Even if Marvel Studios and Schafer were meeting for negotiations,she wouldn’t be able to reveal publicly that she is in talks for Mystique in theX-Menfilm until the former is ready to announce it. But hopefully, as 2025 goes forward, more updates about theX-Menfilm for the MCU will start to emerge sooner rather than later.
