Resident Alienseason 4 can only really begin one way, and if it doesn’t, the upcoming run of episodes could be pretty dull. Theending ofResident Alienseason 3left its characters in varying degrees of danger and/or intriguing scenarios. When the show continues, I think it’ll be worse off if it doesn’t engage in a trope that’s so commonly used in TV shows these days. That may make it sound as thoughResident Alienseason 4will be predictable, but I’m of the opposite opinion. Either way, I’m thankful theResident Aliencastis coming back.
Cliffhangers always make me an even blend of excitement and nervousness. Whenever a show returns after a tense and unresolved ending, I’m desperate for the story’s continuation to live up to my expectations.Resident Alienseason 3’s finale, “Homecoming,” certainly ticked all the boxes for what I look for in a cliffhanger, but there’s a specific storytelling device that I really hopeResident Alienseason 4’s debut episode puts into practice to capitalize on the thrilling conclusion of the previous installment.

Resident Alien Season 4 Needs A Big Time Jump To Capitalize On Harry’s Imprisonment Storyline
Harry can’t just be sitting in a jail cell in the Resident Alien season 4 opener
Harry Vanderspeigle being revealed to be imprisoned at the end of “Homecoming” was a huge twist, especially with the shapeshifting Mantid taking his place on Earth.Harry is rarely on the back foot, and I loved how the show shook things up by making Tudyk’s character so helpless. That being said, I’d be very disappointed ifResident Alienseason 4 opened with Harry’s immediate escape. Doing so would undo the brilliant development at the end of season 3. Instead, what I’d find more rewarding isResident Alienseason 4 being set a little while after the events of “Homecoming.”
The thought of watching Harry stare at the wall of his cell while his alien doppelgänger steals the limelight is very unappealing to me.

If there isn’t a time jump of at least a few months, thenone of the few other alternatives would be for Harry to remain sidelinedfor a few episodes. As the show’s main character, this would be a huge loss - not to mention incredibly boring. Sure, I’d still get to seeAlan Tudyk in action as he playsResident Alien’s new villain, but the thought of watching Harry stare at the wall of his cell while his alien doppelgänger steals the limelight is very unappealing to me.
Resident Alienseason 4 will be the first run of episodes since the show switched networks from Syfy to USA.
A time jump would solve this issue. It wouldn’t just prevent me from being forced to watch Harry doing nothing for several episodes, but it’d also be fascinating to see what the Mantid has been up to during that same period. Of course, it’s possible that Harry simply serves as the show’s narrator for a while from his cell aboard theGreys’Star Wars-inspired moon shipwithout being physically present in the story. I think that could be a good middle ground, but it wouldn’t be my preferred option.
A Resident Alien Season 4 Time Jump Would Make The Whole Show Better
The other Resident Alien characters' storylines would be more interesting further down the line
Harry isn’t the only character whose storyline would benefit from a time jump betweenResident Alienseasons 3 and 4. Pretty much every member of the main cast ended “Homecoming” in the throes of a compelling development that would be great to see picked up a little further into the show’s timeline. For instance,Judah Prehn’s Max Hawthorne was last seen face-to-face with the Mantid, and I’m sure the nefarious alien wouldn’t have been happy with being discovered. The question remains about Max’s safety, and whether he was killed on sight or held captive for months on end.
I can’t wait to see how Mike has processed his encounter with the dead Grey Alien.
Similarly, I can’t wait to see how Mike has processed his encounter with the dead Grey Alien. While he now can’t possibly refute the existence of extraterrestrial life, I’m sure a character like Mike will have found a way to distract himself from the truth. How that would look is still unclear, though. In addition, the reunion of Liv and Peter “The Alien Tracker” Bach is another exciting plot to lookforward to. However, I’d rather see them much further into whatever they’re planning, rather than an immediate continuation of their new team-up in “Homecoming.”
How Resident Alien Season 4 Can Avoid A Time Jump (& Still Be Interesting)
Harry needs to stay away from Patience if there’s no time jump
If there’s no time jump inResident Alien’s immediate future, I could live with that if I knew season 4 would still be entertaining. Harry’s story is pivotal to this. While I’d be let down if he immediately escaped the Greys' ship, fleeing to somewhere other than Earth would still be an enthralling development. Overwhelmed by the challenge ahead,Harry may deem it more prudent to go and seek helpfrom other members of the interplanetary community. With Robert Hutchins still aboard the Greys' massive craft, he could easily help Harry escape again and pursue this course of action.
Alan Tudyk’s 3 Resident Alien Characters Explained
Alan Tudyk is responsible for portraying more than just Resident Alien’s main character, with his casting resulting in an impressive workload.
Alternatively,Harry could attempt to return to Patience, Colorado after breaking out of his prison. What could make this exciting is if he crash lands somewhere else on planet Earth and has to slowly make his way back to warn the others about the Mantid’s presence. This possibility is perhaps a little less promising, as Harry could realistically just call ahead and warn Asta and the other residents of the town. That being said, the others have no reason to believe the Mantid is anyone other thanResident Alien’s main character, so there could be some mind games at play.
