Warning! This post contains spoilers for Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.
The brand-newWizards of Waverly Placespin-off showWizards Beyond Waverly Placeshockingly ended with the appearance of a mysterious evil hooded figure, and I think I’ve guessed exactly who is hiding underneath that hood. Based onJustin and Alex Russo’s ages,Wizards Beyond Waverly Placeis set approximately 15 years after the finale ofWizards of Waverly Place. Plenty hashappened sinceWizards of Waverly Place, including Justin being fired from WizTech, giving up his powers, and beginning a family of his own with his mortal wife, Giada, and two sons, Milo and Roman.
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’scast of charactersfeatures not only Justin Russo and his family but also Billie, a young wizard whom Alex wants Justin to train. However, just as the theme songs forWizards of Waverly PlaceandWizards Beyond Waverly Placesuggest, everything is not what it seems.TheWizards Beyond Waverly Placeepisode “Wiz-Taken Identity” reveals that an evil being is after Billie, and I believe the secret to this villain’s identity is hidden in an 11-year-oldWizards of Waverly Placemovie.

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’s Villain Might Be The OG Movies' Evil Alex Character
Evil Alex Was The Antagonist In The Wizards Return: Alex Vs. Alex
In “Wiz-Taken Identity,” dark wizard Morphia Murkshadow steals the identity of Minister Bigelow McFigglehorn, who works for the Wizard Ministry of Education and is on her way to give Billie a pop quiz. Despite managing to tie up the real Minister McFigglehorn, Justin, Billie, and Roman,Morphia proves not to be all that formidable an opponent for young Billie, but that is because she isn’t the true villain. The real villain inWizards Beyond Waverly Placeappears at the end of the episode, but their identity is entirely concealed by a large black hood.
Although there are very few hints about who this hooded figure could be in the show,I think the secret lies in a 2013Wizards of Waverly Placemovie,The Wizards Return: Alex Vs. Alex. In the movie, Alex Russo removes all the parts of herself she believes people don’t like. To do this, she recites the spell,“Selfish, mean, and tired of rejection, take these parts to a place of reflection.”

Almost immediately, Alex realizes that although the spell worked in the sense that only the kindest parts of her remained inside herself, the parts she cast off created Evil Alex. Unfortunately, Evil Alex was a fully autonomous second version of Alex who quickly became a major threat. In the end, Alex managed to thwart Evil Alex’s plan (and Dominic’s, who was working alongside Evil Alex), but there are several reasons to believe she may have returned and could be the mysterious figure inWizards Beyond Waverly Place.

Why Don’t Justin’s Kids Have Powers In Wizards Beyond Waverly Place?
Justin Russo’s children, Milo and Roman, don’t seem to have powers in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, but there are several possible explanations.
How Evil Alex’s Original Plans Connect To Alex’s Warning About Billie
The Fate Of The World Is In Billie’s Hands
At the beginning ofWizards Beyond Waverly Place,Alex warns Justin that the fate of the world is in Billie’s hands(and, by extension, Justin’s, as he’s training her). The exact threat facing the world isn’t yet defined in the show, but this could connect to the danger Evil Alex and Dominic posed. InThe Wizards Return: Alex Vs. Alex, Dominic created a machine named the Dominic One Thousand, which imprisoned mortals in marbles.
Dominic and Evil Alex’s plan was to imprison every mortal on Earth and then take over the wizarding world as its new rulers.

Dominic and Evil Alex’s plan was to imprison every mortal on Earth and then take over the wizarding world as its new rulers. This would more than qualify as the world being in danger if it is indeed Evil Alex beneath the hood. This goal is far from the only connection between Evil Alex and the villain inWizards Beyond Waverly Place, though. Most notably, just like Evil Alex in the movie, the villain inWizards Beyond Waverly Placepossesses purple magic.
How Evil Alex Could Return After Being Defeated In The Wizards Return: Alex Vs. Alex
Alex Absorbed Evil Alex Back Into Herself, Which Could Leave The Door Open For Her Return
At the end ofThe Wizards Return: Alex Vs. Alex, Alex managed to defeat Evil Alex by essentially absorbing the parts of herself she had removed. This method of defeating Evil Alex could certainly leave the door open for her return, as this means that Evil Alex technically still lives inside Alex Russo. The movie also set up this idea already, as Alex kept believing she had defeated Evil Alex, only for Evil Alex to appear yet again. At one point, Alex even jokes that she"thinks"Evil Alex is really defeated.
This would also make sense narratively inWizards Beyond Waverly Place. Selena Gomez is only guest starring on the show, but she remains an incredibly beloved member ofthe Russo family. This plot line would still give Alex a major role in the spin-off show without requiring Gomez to appear in multiple episodes. This would also explain why the identity of the villain needs to be concealed—clearly, it’s someone the audience would recognize, and it’s going to be a major reveal.
At present, this is only a theory. There are a number of shockingWizards of Waverly Placecharacters who could be revealed underneath the hood. Based onThe Wizards Return: Alex Vs. Alexand the hints dropped inWizards Beyond Waverly Placeso far, though, I fully believe Evil Alex is coming to theWizards of Waverly Placereboot.
