One moreMCUveteran actor should be confirmed to return inAvengers: Doomsdayto redeem his disappointing run in two recent Marvel Studios flops. Marvel Studios has recently confirmed the first27 actors confirmed to have been cast inAvengers: Doomsday, which includes some characters we can’t wait to see back in action, but there are many more that haven’t been mentioned. This includes many of Marvel’s most notable and powerful characters, and some that have been in the MCU since the very beginning, such as Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury.
Samuel L. Jackson first appeared as Nick Furyin the post-credits scene of 2008’sIron Man, and has made 12 further appearances in live-action in the 17 years since. Fury was introduced as the Director of SHIELD, had a crucial role in forming the first Avengers team, brought down SHIELD and HYDRA with Captain America and helped Carol Danvers rediscover herself, making him a significant part of the MCU’s history. However,Fury’s more recent MCU appearances haven’t been so well-received, which makes hisAvengers: Doomsdayreturn even more important.

Marvel Studios Failed Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury Throughout The MCU’s Phase 5
Nick Fury has been at the center of the MCU since the start, and has been a prominent character not just on Earth-616, but also in many alternate realities of the animatedWhat If…?series. Unfortunately,Samuel L. Jackson’s two most recent appearances as Nick Fury haven’t done the character justice. 2023’sSecret Invasionwas Fury’s first solo projectin the MCU, but it became one of the franchise’s lowest-rated installments due to problems with its story, pacing, character development and ending. This disappointingly continued in 2023’sThe Marvels.

Supporting Cast
The Marvelswas initially billed as a sequel toSecret Invasion, set to reintroduce Nick Fury as a changed hero, a more confident leader and a character more comfortable getting involved in the lives of the MCU’s heroes. However, whileSecret Invasionintroduced some huge developments for Nick Fury’s character and history,The Marvelsignored every single one. It was a huge shame to see Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury wasted so monumentally in the MCU’s Phase 5, but we think Marvel Studios has the perfect opportunity to offer the iconic Marvel hero some redemption.
Avengers: Doomsday Is The Perfect Place To Bring Nick Fury Back To The MCU
Samuel L. Jackson Hasn’t Yet Been Confirmed For Avengers: Doomsday
AfterSecret InvasionandThe Marvels, it’s unclear where exactly Nick Fury is in the MCU. The end ofThe Marvelssaw Nick Fury return to theSABER Space Station, mourning the loss of Monica Rambeau, but it’s possible that Fury may also now be more comfortable with the idea of returning to Earth, given his actions inSecret Invasion. After Marvel’s recent failures with the character, it would be incredible to see Nick Fury return inAvengers: Doomsday, whether on Earth or on SABER, as this would be his perfect chance for redemption.
Nick Fury was there at the very beginning of the Avengers team in the MCU, so it would be fantastic to see him return alongside the titular team in their upcoming crossover events. It would also be brilliant for us to see Nick Fury’s reaction to seeing Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in the MCU, as Downey Jr. previously portrayed Fury’s close ally, Tony Stark’s Iron Man. Downey Jr. coming back as one of Marvel’s most iconic and powerful villains certainly constitutes the return of other MCU veterans, and Samuel L. Jackson should be top of the list.

Nick Fury’s Avengers: Doomsday & Secret Wars Story Could Be More Emotional Than You Realize
Marvel Studios Might Bid Farewell To Nick Fury In The MCU’s Phase 6
WhileAvengers: Doomsdayand its 2027 sequel,Avengers: Secret Wars, present the best chance for Nick Fury to get redemption after his Phase 5 disappointments, these projects could also be the perfect place for Fury to deliver his swansong.By the timeSecret Warsrolls around, Samuel L. Jackson will have had almost two decades in the MCU, but with speculation of asoft-reboot of the MCU occurring afterSecret Wars, it’s possible someone new could soon assume the role. This means the Multiverse Saga might be Fury’s final chapter, making his return even more important.
26 Years Ago, Marvel Knew How To Make The Avengers Spin-Off Phase 4 Fumbled
Marvel made a movie 26 years ago that was terrible at the time, but would have improved the Phase 4 fumble that has tainted Nick Fury’s MCU career.
It would be a shame for Samuel L. Jackson’s final MCU projects to be the disappointingSecret InvasionandThe Marvels, soAvengers: DoomsdayandSecret Warscan make him a formidable character again, perhaps before bidding him an emotional farewell. Perhaps the Watchers could elevate Fury into the Unseen from Marvel Comics, or he could sacrifice himself in battle against Doctor Doom. Whatever the case may be, Samuel L. Jackson’s return as Nick Fury inAvengers: Doomsdayis paramount, and could include huge developments for the MCU veteran.
