Marvel Studios could break a major 24-year-old feature film record withSpider-Man: Brand New Day, allowing theMCUto tell a story never before seen in a live-actionSpider-Manmovie. Tom Holland has been confirmed to be returning as Peter Parker in2026’s upcomingSpider-Man: Brand New Day, which will pick up after the emotional ending ofNo Way Home. After everyone in the world forgot Spider-Man’s civilian identity,Brand New Daywill kick off a new trilogy for Peter Parker, so it would be great to see it explore a completely new Spider-Man story.

Spider-Man: Brand New Daywill mark adecade of Spider-Man in the MCU, and over this period, Tom Holland’s web-slinging hero has become one of the franchise’s most popular and profitable characters. His first trilogy, comprisingHomecoming, Far From HomeandNo Way Home, form a lengthy and intenseorigin story for Spider-Man, butBrand New Daywill branch out with Peter Parker now being an independent adult superhero. Marvel Studios has the perfect opportunity to explore a Spider-Man story never brought to the screen before inBrand New Day.

Mary Jane, Gwen Stacy & MJ Have Been Spider-Man’s Love Interests In Live-Action

In Spider-Man’s recent movie history, the wall-crawler has never been seen on-screen without a love interest. Most recently, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker began his solo MCU career with a crush on Midtown High senior Liz, the daughter of Michael Keaton’s Vulture, and later formed a strong romantic relationship with Zendaya’s MJ, which has blossomed into areal-world relationship between Zendaya and Holland. However, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is not the only wall-crawler to find love after becoming a hero, as Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield also explored this story.

Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker, back inSam Raimi’s originalSpider-Mantrilogy, stayed fairly faithful to his Marvel Comics roots, as he formed a tight and long-running romance with Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane Watson, though there was also a moment with Bryce Dallas Howard’s Gwen Stacy inSpider-Man 3. Marc Webb’sThe Amazing Spider-Manduology brought Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker and Emma Stone’s revamped Gwen Stacy together, and marked their tragic end.Spider-Man: Brand New Daywill mark the wall-crawler’s latest live-action adventure, but this doesn’t need to include a new love story.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Is Too Soon For Marvel To Introduce A New Love Interest

There Has Been Speculation Of A New Love Interest In Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Doctor Strange’s spell at theend ofSpider-Man: No Way Homewiped everyone’s memories of Peter Parker, including the likes of Strange himself, Happy Hogan, Ned Leeds and even Parker’s new girlfriend, Zendaya’s MJ. This was a hugely emotional ending that left Peter Parker completely alone, perhaps opening the door for a new supporting cast and romantic interest to debut inSpider-Man: Brand New Day. However,it seems far too soon for a new love interest to simply appear and replace MJ inBrand New Day, so Marvel Studios can finally break this trend.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as the first in a new solo trilogy for the wall-crawler in the MCU, would be the perfect place for Spider-Man to explore a romance-less storyline on-screen for the first time since 2002’sSpider-Manmovie.The love story between Peter Parker and MJ in the MCU is too iconic and beloved to just replace it off-handed and so soon. While there’s no doubt thatSpider-Man will get a new love interestsometime down the line, perhaps Gwen Stacy or Felicia Hardy’s Black Cat,Spider-Man: Brand New Daywould be better off telling a different story.

Why Leaving Peter Parker Without A Romance Would Be Great For Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Peter Parker Doesn’t Need A New Love Interest In The MCU

If any live-action movie is going to explore a Spider-Man story without a romantic undertone,Spider-Man: Brand New Dayis the perfect opportunity. Peter Parker will surely still be traumatized and lost afterNo Way Home, soit surely isn’t the time to have him engage in a new romance, especially after losing a love as powerful as that which he shared with Zendaya’s MJ. It would be fantastic to see Marvel Studios spread Spider-Man’s wings without a love story, soBrand New Daycan do something that no previouslive-actionSpider-Manmoviehas done.

I Don’t Want MJ To Return In Spider-Man 4 For One Simple Reason

Zendaya’s MJ was great in the MCU’s Spider-Man trilogy, but with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 filming soon, I think she should not return at the moment.

Spider-Man is far more than just a lover in Marvel Comics, but he has always been tied to his relationships with various girls and women in his Marvel movie history. While many want to see a newlove interest more appear inSpider-Man: Brand New Day,it would be better to see Parker’s story develop organically without a new romance being forced where it doesn’t belong. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton,Spider-Man: Brand New Daywill change the status quo for Spider-Man in the MCU, and removing a love interest would be a great way to accomplish this.
