She-Hulk: Attorney at Lawintroduced Jen Walters’s She-Hulk, portrayed by Tatiana Maslany, to the MCU. Initially, she rejects the idea of being a full-time hero, wanting to keep up her life as a normal attorney, but it’s not easy to go back to normal once the world knows that Jen Walters is She-Hulk. For fans looking for more She-Hulk in the same vein as the show, look no further than writer Rainbow Rowell’s recent run on the title.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Lawbecame one of the MCU’s most divisive TV shows, and for those who enjoyed the series, things have not been looking up for a second season.

WhileHawkeyeSeason 2 got an exciting updatein January 2025,She-Hulkgot a disappointing update from MCU star Tatiana Maslany, who doesn’t think a Season 2 is in the cards, especially given the budget. For those who enjoyed the show and wanted more, as well as for those who wanted a different She-Hulk fix, the recent comic by Rowell and her collaborators could appease both parties.

Around the TimeShe-Hulk: Attorney At LawCame Out, Jen Walters Starred in a New Marvel Comic Series

She-Hulk’s 2022 Comic Is One of Marvel’s Best Recent Series

Several months beforeShe-Hulk: Attorney at Lawhit Disney+ for the first time, She-Hulk got a new Marvel Comics series in January 2022, with the first issue by Rowell, Rogē Antônio, Rico Renzi, and Joe Caramagna. Whilethe 2022 series is not an origin story for Jen Walters, likeShe-Hulk: Attorney At Lawis, it is a fresh start for the lawyer. After a particularly savage time as the She-Hulk, Jen Walters - like her MCU counterpart - just wants to go back to a normal life. Even while trying to focus on her career and friends, though, it’s hard to turn the She-Hulk heroics off.

EXCLUSIVE: She-Hulk star Tatiana Maslany opens up on potentially showing up as Jennifer Walters on the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again TV show.

While Rowell’sShe-Hulkis a solid introduction to the character for new readers,it is also a comic series that absolutely adores comics, as well as the wild history behind some of these characters.She-Hulkdoes not hesitate to loop any Marvel character it can dream of, and in doing so, the Easter eggs, as well as some of the recurring gags - like the Thing, She-Hulk, and Titania’s fight club - are truly delightful. It doesn’t hurt that some of the deepest cuts inShe-Hulkprove to be critical to the plot of the comic.

She-Hulk and Jack of Hearts embrace

She-Hulk’s Love Interest Jack of Hearts Is More Than a Lore Callback

A Winning Combo: She-Hulk Is Equal Parts Superheroes and Slice-of-Life

One of the most important throwbacks inShe-Hulkis the reintroduction of Jack of Hearts, a more obscure Marvel character originally thought dead. However, that is not the case, and a slow-burn romance between him and Jen sparks. This romance, as well asthe more slice-of-life elements of She-Hulk, are truly where this comic shines. Yes, there is plenty of action and even some cosmic adventures in the follow-up series, but what makesShe-Hulkshine is how relatable Jen is. Plus, for those who wanted more romance inShe-Hulk: Attorney at Law, the 2022She-Hulkseries has them covered.

She-Hulkmay be a badass, but even she struggles with relationships, and this series takes the time to build trust between its characters and work through said issues. The series also gives Jen romantic obstacles to overcome. The “sequel” seriesThe Sensational She-Hulkbrings back Ganymede from a 30-year-old Marvel story, and she is She-Hulk’s competition for Jack of Heart’s heart. It’s clear thatRowell has a passion for She-Hulk’s character as well as her extensive Marvel history, folding it into the series effortlessly while crafting engaging and fun storylines.

It’s not just She-Hulk’s romantic relationship that is a stand-out in this series.

It’s not just She-Hulk’s romantic relationship that is a stand-out in this series. Her friendships with other Marvel heroes truly make this one of the best Marvel comics of the past few years. These friendships with other heroes are also what was missing from the Disney+ series. Given the nature of TV, it’s harder to stack a show’s cast with characters primarily reserved for movies, especially when taking actors' schedules and contracts. However, in a comic, it’s easier to have characters from all across the Marvel Universe tap in.

She-Hulk’s Greatest Superpower Is Friendship

From Hellcat to Captain Marvel, She-Hulk Has Super Friends

Characters who do not often get the spotlight, like Patsy Walker’s Hellcat, are recurring friends and a larger support system for Jen. Plus, looping in more supporting characters is another way to bring in some more Marvel history into the series. Meanwhile, characters who are more prominent, like Captain Marvel, can come over from whatever book they’re in to show Jen some love while also making a case forwhy the Avengers need her on their side. These friendships matter so much to Jen, andthey add another layer of humanity to She-Hulkand her series.

Rowell, a romance writer who rose to prominence in the young adult market, proves that the comics industry canlearn a lot from YA and romance tropes, as these elements not only thrive in this series but area major part of the comic’s success.She-Hulklasted 15 issues, and then the story was immediately continued in a new #1,The Sensational She-Hulk#1, with Rowell again serving as the writer. The Sensational She-Hulkran for 10 issues, giving Rowell’s run a comparatively hefty 25 issues.
