Warning: Spoilers ahead for Severance season 2’s finale!Lumon Industries is full of surprises, but I didn’t expect theSeveranceseason 2 finale to introduce a department just as weird (or weirder) than Mammalians Nurturable, aka the goat department. The existence of goats on the Severed Floor has been a mystery since season 1, when Mark and Helly encountered a man feeding one of the young animals. More information surroundingLumon’s goat departmentwas unveiled inSeveranceseason 2, episode 3, after Mark and Helly cross paths with members of the department yet again.

The goats are being raised by the Mammalians Nurturable department, which is run by Lorne, Gwendoline Christie’sSeverancecharacter. The severed employees in the goat department quite seriously, donning unique farming attire with Lumon flair, while some also dress as goats to make the animals more comfortable. The department is covered in green grass and hills, but there are also feeding stations and husbandry tanks. It’s not entirely clear what the goats are meant for, butSeveranceseason 2’s finaleprovides some insight. The finale also debuts another odd Lumon department with a confusing purpose.

Severance Season 2’s Finale Introduced Another Weird Department Called Choreography & Merriment

First Goats, Now A Marching Band

It turns out that MDR is one of the smaller departments within Lumon’s Severed Floor. Aside from the goat department’s larger group of employees,Lumon also has an entire marching band that makes up the Choreography & Merriment department.AfterMark finishes the Cold Harbor project, Mr. Milchick appears alongside the robot version of Kier to congratulate Mark’s achievement. Milchick then kicks off the bizarre celebration by changing his clothes and acting as the drum major for C & M’s marching band.

THAT Death In Severance Season 2’s Finale & What It Means For Season 3 Explained

Severance season 2, episode 10 includes the death of a major character that will have big ramifications on the story of season 3 and beyond.

Lumon’s band, which is made up of dozens of severed employees, performs around the MDR office as the lights flash blue and green.Milchick goes all-in with the drum major role, indicating that he has experience leading the band. While meant to provide Mark with “merriment” for his work, the department’s invitation backfires on Milchick. The distraction the music and lights cause allows Mark to slip out for his Gemma rescue mission. Meanwhile, Helly gets help from Dylan after trapping Milchick in the office’s bathroom.

How Often Is The C & M Department Needed?

Lumon’s marching band sequence provides some laughs inSeveranceseason 2’s finale, especially with Milchick’s new dance moves and how Helly steals an instrument to hit Milchick with. However, their introduction will likely result in the question of why Lumon needs a Choreography & Merriment department in the first place.C & M didn’t appear for Helly’s MDR dance party or any of the waffle parties, so Lumon must only use the department for very special occasions. Based on Lumon’s focus on the Cold Harbor project, it certainly is a significant occasion in the eyes of the Eagans.

Severanceseason 3 was renewed by Apple TV+ shortly after season 2’s finale was released.

Considering how large the marching band is, it’s interesting that they’ve been located on the Severed Floor this entire time without any mention of the C & M department inSeverance. One could assume they are new, but that doesn’t seem to be the case when Helly convinces the band to join MDR’s side by reminding them that they’ve lost severed friends at Lumon too. We now know that Lumon’s goat department involves animal sacrifice, and with the fact that the marching band joins Dylan against Milchick, the Choreography & Merriment department might be harboring their own dark secrets.
