While it’s been said that it wasBarriss Offee’s speech during her arrest on Coruscant that ultimately led to theGrand Inquisitor’s fall to the dark side, the exact details of that moment are as yet unknown. As a member of theJedi Temple Guard, it’s haunting to think of how he turned on his friends and allies. This incredible art takes on the challenge of depicting that moment.
Created and shared byArchfeyon Tumblr, this art has, so far, arrived in two pieces. The first, captioned “Last guard shift,” sees the Grand Inquisitor standing behind two of his peers. One of them is laughing and smiling with their mask half-off, and the other is tending to one of their gloves. What they don’t see is the Grand Inquisitor lurking behind them, a sinister look in his eyes as he prepares to strike.
The second part of the art byArchfeysees the moment when the Grand Inquisitor makes his move. Captioned “Keep your friends close, and your enemies…” - cutting off at the perfect moment - this addition portrays the Grand Inquisitor stabbing his yellow lightsaber blade through the chest of one of the guards. The Grand Inquisitor has nothing but red fire in his eyes while doing so,allowing darkness to consume him as he exchanges someone who used to be a friend for an enemy that needs to be defeated.

Someone as highly trained and powerful as the Grand Inquisitor became a key player in Palpatine’s plan to make sure thatOrder 66was carried out to the fullest extent.

It’s fascinating that his fall happened because of Barriss Offee’s speech, proving that what she said did mean something to someone in that room. Of course, Anakin Skywalker was also there, and what he heard no doubt also rocked his own unsteady faith in the Jedi Order - as it did with Ahsoka Tano. It would be thrilling to one day see exactly how that transformation came to be for the Grand Inquisitor, given how important he’s become to the overallStar Warsstory, from his debut in the animatedStar Wars Rebelsseries to his live-action tenure inObi-Wan Kenobi.
