Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Invincible season 3.After an incredible first two seasons,Invinciblehas continued to prove it’s one of the best shows on the market, and its third season has reinforced the one thing it does better than its competition. DespiteInvincibleparodying the big superherofranchises and implementing plenty of meta humor, the series has consistently delivered an emotional and thought-provoking story that confirms it belongs in the superhero subgenre. Its violent and brutal nature helps the show stand out, and some of the darker themes highlight thatInvincibleis willing to go to places that the likes of Marvel and DC typically avoid.
As a result, the project has been widely praised and has received fantastic reviews across the board, cementing its status as one of the best-animated shows around.Invinciblealso confirmed there will be no midseason breakthis time around, andwith season 3 releasing less than a year after season 2’s finale, Prime Video’s hit series has fixed some of its biggest criticisms, making it even more popular. However, despite the critical acclaim and array of qualities, one ofInvincible’s best attributes often gets overlooked, and the series utilizes this major element better than most other superhero IPs.

Invincible’s Secondary Villains Are One Of The Best Parts Of The Show
The Series Is Filled With Fun & Menacing Antagonists Who Have Perfect Roles In The Story
Despite having some terrifying antagonists like the Viltrumites and Angstrom Levy,Invinciblehas also introduced a variety of compelling secondary villains who have been used to perfection. Having been easily beaten multiple times in the past,Doc Seismic made his grand return in season 3and looked more capable than ever. He caused Earth’s heroes a major problem in “You’re Not Laughing Now” and almost beat them before eventually being taken down. Likewise, the Mauler Twins are some ofInvincible’s most powerful charactersand once again feature in season 3, although this time, their fate is up in the air.
Although the duo is incredibly intelligent and a menacing threat, they are also used for comic relief, highlighting their versatility, and their supposed death could have huge implications. D.A. Sinclair has also had a quietly recurring role through his ReAnimen, while Titan made an appearance in season 3 as well, proving the series continues to implement these criminals into the narrative every chance it gets.Invinciblehas also used the Sequids, Flaxans, and Lizard League to add plenty of lower-level threats who still cause major issues, confirming that it has no shortage of side villains.

New episodes ofInvincibleseason 3 are available every Thursday on Prime Video.
Episode 3 even gave two seemingly minor villains an incredibly emotional follow-up to their last appearance, which has given them more depth than expected. While these characters and groups may often be overshadowed byInvincible’s bigger antagonists, they serve an incredibly important role in the story, as they have helped Mark and the other heroes get stronger through every battle. Their unique personalities and constant presence have become such an identifiable aspect of the show, and the franchise has consistently used these lower-tier villains way better than most superhero projects.

Invincible Needs To Continue Using Its Side Villains (Even During Its Major Stories)
The Secondary Antagonists Can Still Play A Large Role During Invincible’s Biggest Arcs
WhenInvincibleeventually dives into its most significant stories - like the Invincible War and the Viltrumite invasion - it may feel easy to sideline its secondary villains, but the show should continue to use them. Season 3 focused on redeeming former antagonists like Darkwing and D.A. Sinclair, highlighting that their incredible skills could be used for good. Therefore, when it comes to fighting greater enemies, Mark and Earth’s other heroes may need more support, which these previous villains could provide.
Invincible Season 3 Brings Back A Character Stronger Than Omni-Man After Their 1-Season Absence
Omni-Man has been one of Invincible’s strongest superheroes so far, but a character who is arguably more powerful is set to make their return.
Other antagonists may also have a change of heart, meaning Doc Seismic’s unorthodox abilities could one day help the central characters rather than hinder them. However, having side villains remain a threat even during these more high-stakes arcs or directly after them can keep the show groundedand prove that Earth still has its own internal problems. WithInvinciblerenewed for season 4, it seems inevitable some of these antagonists will show up again, and the franchise should continue making them a crucial part of the story, regardless of how many bigger threats are introduced in the future.
