Suits: L.A.star Stephen Amell recently discussed the differences between the upcoming spinoff and the originalSuitsshow, offering an exciting update on what the new series will be like. After an astonishing streaming success in 2023, theSuitsfranchise is returning with a brand-new show,Suits: L.A.Although this will not be the first timeSuitsgets a spinoff,Suits: L.A.will follow new characters as opposed to what Pearson did in 2019.
Given how greatSuits’ series finalewas, plus the fact that the show ran for nine seasons, a revival always seemed difficult to pull off. However, the “Suitsresurgence” was bound to lead to a new project, even if notSuitsseason 10. Enter theSuits: L.A. spinoff, which will feature new characters based on Los Angeles instead of New York. While comparisons will be inevitable,Amell, who plays Ted Black inSuits: L.A., recently commented on how the new show shouldn’t be expected to be just whatSuitswasand will be different enough.

Suits: L.A. Shouldn’t Just Be Suits With A Different Setting
Suits: L.A. Must Be Different Enough From Suits
Speaking to theInside of You with Michael Rosenbaumpodcast, Amell discussed thesimilarities between theSuits: L.A.spinoff and the original show, stating that the new series“is never going to be what the original was.”Amell went on to say that not taking theSuits: L.A.job over fear of it not being like the original would have been a“terrible”decision, noting that the new series is meant to be different fromSuits. Amell stated thatSuits: L.A.“is going to be different,”starting with the Los Angeles setting and the new film.
“No, it’s never going to be what the original was, and that would be a terrible reason not to take the job. It’s going to be different. It’s set in a different place… and there will be people who watch the original but never watch our version, and that’s okay. Great. Go find something on Apple TV+ then.”

While Amell didn’t get into detail about howSuits: L.A.will differ from the original series, the fact that the spinoff is not aiming at being just a rehash ofSuitswith different characters and locations is great news. With so many sequels, spinoffs, and reboots of beloved shows happening every year, having yet another TV franchise make a comeback could perhaps not be that exciting. However, ifSuits: L.A.finds its own identity and sets itself apart from the original show,it could be just as good asSuitswas for entirely different reasons.
Suits: L.A.’s Pilot Will Tell How Different It Will Be From Suits
Suits’ First Episode Quickly Established The Show’s Premise
Judging a show for its pilot is not always fair, but I assume that the first episode ofSuits: L.A.will tell us how different the new show will be compared to the original one.Suits’ premise was established very quickly in the pilot –Mike Ross had never gone to collegebut was so smart and had such a natural talent for being a lawyer that he was hired as Harvey Specter’s junior associate.Mike’s secret and photographic memory was the “catch” ofSuits’ pilot, and it will be interesting to see whatSuits: L.A.’s version of it will be.
“What Did You Just Say To Me?” And 7 Other Suits Lines They Used In Almost Every Episode
Between “Goddamnit” and “What did you just say to me,” some expressions seemed to have been used in every episode of Suits, especially by Harvey.
Suits: L.A.does not have to imitateSuitsand have its own secret or gimmick that sets the narrative for the rest of the show, but it must have something that sets itself apart from other legal dramas. This is whySuits: L.A.’s pilot will be such an important episode to the franchise. Not only will it have to introduce the new characters and make us care about them, but it will also have to show how the spinoff will differ fromSuitsin the long term.
