Iconic heroSpawnis once again being penned by his creator as Todd McFarlane returns to write his beloved creation and usher in the nextera of the Spawn Universe. Next year’s release ofSpawn #360doesn’t just promise McFarlane’s return, but a stunning new direction for the long-running franchise.
It won’t be long before January is here, and the next year promises to be full of surprises, asAIPT Comicsreports that next month’s release ofSpawn #360, will see the character once again beingwritten by Spawn’s creator, Todd McFarlane. McFarlane won’t be alone as the issue will reunite him with comic legend Brett Booth.

The solicitation forSpawn #360finds the title character in a bad place. Bludd has won, Spawn has lost, and the Vampire Kingdom has ascended. But this issue is just the beginning ofwhat lies ahead for the entire Spawn universe.
Todd McFarlane is Back to TakeSpawninto Its Next Era
Who Better Than the Hero’s Creator?
Todd McFarlane createdSpawnback in 1992, shortly after he and several other popular creators founded the creator-owned Image Comics. Since he first debuted, the anti-hero has starred in dozens of spin-offs that drastically expanded the Spawn Universe, not to mention cameo in other Image Comics properties, such as Invincible (as well as a few crossovers with Batman). McFarlane has overseen his iconic character’s creative direction, but the long-runningSpawnseries has been written by others like Erik Larsen, Darragh Savage, and Rory McConville, who took over writing duties of the main title withSpawn #327.
Todd McFarlane’s return to the character shouldn’t be a surprise. He’s written other Spawn-related miniseries and one-shots in recent years such asBatman/Spawn, and theSpawn: Unwanted Violence, not to mention he currently writes the secondarySpawntitle,Gunslinger Spawn. But Spawn is McFarlane’s baby and no one knows the character like he does. While it’s unknown what he has planned for the next phase of the Spawn Universe, it’s undoubtedly something big, as it really seemsTodd McFarlane Productions wantsSpawn #360to be a jumping-on point for new fans.

Spawn’s Creator Wants to Pump New Life Into Spawn
A Big Entry Point Can Really Help Direct New Fans
Once upon a time,Spawnwas a book freed from the decades of continuity that weighed down other comic book characters. But now the hero has just as much history as any other big comic icon and new fans are always going to find it hard to start with a title with that much story. A new jumping-on point, done under the creative direction of his creator, could be exactly what Spawn needs. No one loves Spawn as much as Todd McFarlane, and he can help prepare fans for the next chapter of theSpawn Universe.
