Warning: Contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima episode #13.One common criticism people have had ofDragon Ball Daimais that Goku and Vegeta have rarely ever been challenged. The Tamagamis have been fairly powerful, and Majin Kuu and Duu will surely be powerful opponents as well, but beyond them, everyone else in the Demon Realm has been fairly easy for them to deal with, and it’s made most of the fights have little to offer beyond their animation.

Dragon Ball Daimahasn’t done a good job of selling the threat level of the Demon Realm, but that’s finally changed. Episode #13 was another episode of Goku and everyone dealing with random trouble in the Demon Realm, but unlike previous episodes, where the problem was dealt with fairly easily,Dragon Ball Daima’s latest episode was the first time that the series truly showed the audience how dangerous the Demon Realm is supposed to be. It was a much-needed turn for the series so late into its run, and hopefully, it won’t be the last time something like this happens.

Dragon Ball Daima Finally Reveals Just How Powerful Demons Can Be

Dragon Ball Daima Finally Gives Goku Another Challenge

InDragon Ball Daimaepisode #13, after getting the second Dragon Ball, Goku and his friends ended up onPlanet Mega, a planet inhabited by giant-sized demons called Megaths and similarly giant animals. One child Megath and his dog started causing everyone trouble as Bulma and Panzy fixed the ship, and not only did the Megath’s dog force Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo to struggle against it, even when working together, butthe Megath was so powerful that Goku had to use Super Saiyan just to push him back.

Not only does the Megath being a child imply that an adult Megath would be even stronger, but as everyone leaves Planet Mega, it’s revealed that the demons of Planet Giga are even bigger and stronger than the demons of Planet Mega. Shin even says that the Megaths’ peaceful nature is the only reason why none of them try to become the Demon King, and overall,Dragon Ball Daimaepisode #13makes it clear that there are plenty of demons who can challenge Goku and his friends, if not outright defeat them.

Dragon Ball Daima Needs To Challenge Goku & His Friends To Stand Out As A Story

Even withDaimalargely being a return to the aesthetic of the originalDragon Ball, it still tries to be an action story, which is why the relative ease with which Goku and Vegeta have dealt with threats has been so disappointing. The series would have trouble selling itself if it kept to that until the end, but fortunately,Dragon Ball Daimaproves that Goku and his friends can be challenged by characters other than the major ones with episode #13 works to help it stand out as a story within theDragon Ballfranchise.

Of course, Goku and his friends being challenged won’t mean anything if the series doesn’t keep that going, but there’s plenty of room for that. Not only are Majin Kuu and Majin Duu bound to be major threats, but with there still being plenty of the Demon Realm left to explore,Dragon Ball Daimastill has plenty of chances for action that works not just visually, but narratively, as well. What that would look like is unknown, but whateverDragon Ball Daimaends up doing, it’s sure to be fun to watch from start to finish.
