Cameron recently revealed thatAvatar 3would be titledAvatar: Fire and Ash,and furthermore, that it’s slated for release on July 28, 2025. However, the director and his crew did hint at who might be joining the franchise later on. In 2021, a photo from theAvatar 3set revealed that actress Michelle Yeoh was present. This led many to believe that Yeoh would be appearing in the nextupcomingAvatarmovie. However, I’m sad to report that this is not the case.

Considering thatAvatar: Fire and Ashis still a year away, it is impossible to know where the franchise is going. However, based onAvatar: The Way of Water,I have some ideas. Perhaps Yeoh will portray the leader ofanother Na’vi tribe, similar toThe Way of Water’sRonal and Tonowari.There is also the chance that Yeoh will play a human character, like Stephen Lang’s Colonel Quaritch.

If Cameron drops the ball onAvatar: Fire and Ash,that could put the entire franchise on hold. Yet,Cameron is seemingly confident enough in his projects that he can delay Yeoh’s introduction. He seems to know thatAvatar: Fire and Ashwill be good enough to warrantAvatar 4and beyond.

Ultimately, I thinkAvataris on a strong track. Michelle Yeoh’s casting is thrilling, but also makes me excited to see who else will be joining the franchise. Furthermore, I am impressed by James Cameron’s firm planning. Though his grand plans may seem like a lot, they tell me that he has put abundant thought into this franchise and where it is headed. I can only hope that these plans are just as fantastic as the first twoAvatarfilms.
