James Cameron’s History With Dark Angel Explained

James Cameron Wrote And Produced Dark Angel

Fresh off hisTitanicsuccess, Cameron collaborated with Charles H. Eglee to createDark Angel. The two had worked together on various projects before and ended up forming a production company called Cameron/Eglee Productions, which producedDark Angel. At the timeDarkAngelwas being created, there were several strong female characters in TV and film, such as Buffy, Xena, Sarah Connor, and Ellen Ripley. These strong female heroes as well as theBattle Angel Alitamanga influenced Cameron in his creation of Max.

Cameronserved as a writer and executive producer inDark Angelbut only directed the season 2 finale with the hope that the show would return for season 3. Unfortunately, Fox canceled the show despite initially agreeing to renew it due to adrop in ratings and how expensive it was to make. Another reasonDark Angelwas dropped was to make room forFirefly, another sci-fi show that ended up lasting for only one season. What A Dark Angel Reboot Would Look Like

A Dark Angel Reboot Is Not Officially In The Works

It seems unlikely James Cameron would be directly involved in a potentialDark Angelreboot considering he has been quite busy withtheAvatarsequels. However, if a reboot were to happen,it could explore artificial intelligence and technological advancements, which would play into the dystopian theme the show employed. Alternatively, theDark Angelreboot could revisit some of the ideas that Eglee and Cameron were working on before the show was canceled.

According to Eglee (via “Freak Nation” DVD commentary),Dark Angelseason 3 was going to combine the stories of seasons 1 and 2 and reveal more about the mythology of the series. ADark Angelreboot could use this idea and expand on it by revealing how Sandeman planned to spread Max’s genetic immunity to the rest of humanity. Although the possibility of aDark Angelreboot with Cameron at the helm is slim, the series was interesting enough during its original run and would welcome some sort of continuation.
