“If we can figure outThe Grinch… The thing about it is that, on the day, I had to do that with a ton of makeup, and I could hardly breathe, and it was an extremely excruciating process. The children were in my mind all the time. ‘It’s for the kids, it’s for the kids, it’s for the kids.’ And now, with motion capture and things like that, I could be free to do some other things.”

Should Carrey Return As The Grinch?

At this point in Carrey’s acting career, it would probably be more exciting to see him do something new than revisit the world ofThe Grinch. Even though the film fared well at the box office, its audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is still a lackluster 58%, suggesting his efforts may be better spent elsewhere. Instead of another major franchise,it would be interesting to see Carrey back in the spotlight in a big comedy wearing his own skininstead of that of The Grinch.

A sequel book by Alistair Heim calledDr. Seuss’sHow The Grinch Lost Christmaswas released in 2023.

That being said, if Carrey did want to revisitThe Grinchthrough the magic of motion capture, that would still be quite exciting. Not limited by prosthetics and makeup, it would be interesting to see how the character evolves. Ultimately, a sequel toHow the Grinch Stole Christmasseems unlikely, but it certainly seems like Carrey hasn’t closed the door on the idea.
