Summary
Jujutsu Kaisenis one ofWeekly Shonen Jump’sstar manga properties, with a gorgeous anime adaptation by MAPPA. However, many of its best moments remain, including a climactic fight between Gojo and Sukuna. Thanks to two cosplayers based in Vancouver, British Columbia, an iconicJujutsu Kaisenclash gets its dues with a special Winter 2010 Olympics backdrop setting the stage. With the Olympic Cauldron standing in the background, Satoru Gojo’s fight against Ryomen Sukuna is adapted by Jay King Ingram and William “ZY” Yao for a worthy Jujutsu Kaisen cosplay.
The Shinjuku Showdown Arc began withJujutsu Kaisenchapter #222 as readers were treated to one of the most in-demand fights, and for the most part, it delivered excellent panels. Despite the shocking conclusion to this particular fight,Gojo and Sukuna’s fight is full of incredible panels thanks to Gege Akutami’s detailed artwork.

But withJujutsu Kaisen’spassionate fans recreating the series' most popular panels, it’s clear that cosplayers have yet to move on from Gojo vs. Sukuna in the fight of the century.

Vancouver’s Olympic Cauldron Stands in for the Malevolent Shrine
Spotted onRedditbut also posted on Instagram, cosplayer Jay King Ingram, aka u/-JI, posted his cosplay asJujutsu Kaisen’sSatoru Gojo squaring off against William “ZY” Yao as Sukunafrom the famous chapter #225 panel. The original shot featuresSukuna’s Malevolent Shrine expansion fromJujutsu Kaisen, atop which the King of Curses stands while Gojo prepares for the ensuing fight. In Vancouver, fans will immediately recognize the use of the 2010 Olympic Cauldron site, which stands for the Malevolent Shrine, perfect for the 2024 Olympic discourse.
The poses are fairly accurate from Ingram’s Gojo cosplay, with extra detail to focus the photography just right to capture the great moment. Additionally, Ingram captures Gojo’s triumph when he learns the Reverse Cursed Technique, but with a greater focus on the backdrop and not sporting the same clothes. Still, forJujutsu Kaisenfans, rendering multiple iconic Gojo and Sukuna moments in Vancouver is a memorable experience. It should serve as a great example of cosplayers being creative with their resources.

Jujutsu Kaisen Fans Come from All Walks of Life
If anybody’s learned fromMegan Thee Stallion’s recent anime-influenced music output, people from all walks of life can be fans ofJujutsu Kaisen, and will enjoy fun cosplay collaborations given the opportunity.William “ZY” Yao, also known as_tofusenpai on Instagram,is a professional dancer, actor, streamer, and musician, while Jay King Ingram is a community manager for Electronic Arts.Ingram’s extensiveInstagramphotos feature his experiences alongside Yao’s time at Anirevo Summer 2024, a large Vancouver anime convention, alongside other fans.
For fans who enjoyed Yao and Ingram’s cosplay rendition of Gojo vs. Sukuna fromJujutsu Kaisen, they don’t appear to feature anime fandom as prominently in their social media footprint otherwise. Still, it’s a clear indicator not only ofJJK’spopularity, but of how increasingly strong anime’s mainstream presence has become. Sadly, there don’t appear to be any shots ofhow Gojo and Sukuna’s fight ends, so fans might be split on just how authentic thisJujutsu Kaisencosplay is.
