As if Loki’s sacrifice inLokiseason 2 wasn’t sad enough, an afterlife rule introduced inThor: Love & Thunderadds an extra emotional layer to it. The God of Mischief was notably absent from the fourthThorfilm, lining up with his death that occurred inthe main MCU timelineinAvengers: Infinity War. However, the character has still been plenty active through his Disney+ solo series. The first season premiered in 2021 to great success, and the second season in 2023 delivered Loki a tragic yet heroic fate.
Atthe end ofLokiseason 2,the God of Mischief takes He Who Remains’ place at the End of Time as the guardian of the multiverse. Taking the throne means Loki is fated to this life, and he will likely live forever, considering that it’s his job to hold the whole multiverse together. It was a heroic move that the character definitely deserves after a decade of development. However, it is also an incredibly tragic one, and some information fromLove & Thunderonly manages to make it even more devastating.

The MCU’s Current Loki Isn’t Likely To Go To Valhalla
Though the concept has existed in Norse mythology for centuries, the MCU’s take on Valhalla was officially explained in detail inThor: Love & Thunder. For Asgardian warriors who die fighting a noble battle, their souls are transported to the halls of Valhalla where they can spend the rest of their existence in peace. Some current notable inhabitants include Odin, Frigga, and Jane Foster. Loki managed to turn himself around into a hero, but he likely won’t ever make it to Valhalla.
Every Dead MCU Hero Eligible For An Afterlife In Valhalla
Over the years, many of the MCU’s heroes have died during battle, potentially earning them the right to enter the Asgardian afterlife of Valhalla.
Loki died a noble death inInfinity War,which makes him worthy of ascending to Valhalla and reuniting with his family. However, the moment that he decided to watch over the multiverse,he destined himself to an eternal existence. As seen with Kang the Conqueror inLokiseason 1, there are rarely ever visitors at the End of Time, so there likely won’t even be many chances for Loki to possibly die. If Loki can’t die, then he can’t go to Valhalla.

Why Loki May Not Go To The MCU’s Valhalla Even If He Dies
Kang the Conqueror demonstrated solitude at the End of Time, but he also proved that it is possible to die there as Sylvie killed him. Some individuals mayseek Loki out at his new throne, and not all of them may have the best intentions. Loki dying while guarding the multiverse is surely a situation that would warrant ascension to Valhalla, butit may still not be possible due to his location.
The End of Time is outside time and space, not set in any particular timeline. If Loki were to die at his post, it may be possible that Valhalla would be unreachable for him if the Asgardian powers can’t recognize his existence. Dying at the End of Time or in any part of the TVA may be outside of Valhalla’s constraints, and considering that Loki is now confined to those locations, it unfortunately seems like he won’t get the warrior send-off despite his worthy actions inLokiseason 2.
